9. TWO CLASSIFICATION OF WAVES
•According to Propagation
-Transverse Waves
-Longitudinal Waves
•According to Medium
-Mechanical Waves
-Electromagnetic Waves
10. MECHANICAL WAVES
•A mechanical wave is created when a source of
energy causes a vibration to travel through a
medium.
•(ex. Water waves, sound waves, seismic waves)
15. ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES
•A type of wave that can travel through space
or vacuum
•(ex. Radio wave, Microwave, Infrared, Visible
Light, Ultraviolet light, X-ray, Gamma ray )
18. RADIO WAVE
•Your radio captures
radio waves emitted
by radio stations,
bringing your favorite
tunes. Radio waves
are also emitted by
stars and gases in
space.
19. MICRO WAVE
•Microwave radiation
will cook your
popcorn in just a
few minutes, but is
also used by
astronomers to learn
about the structure
of nearby galaxies.
20. INFRARED
•Night vision goggles
pick up the infrared
light emitted by our
skin and objects with
heat. In space,
infrared light helps
us map the dust
between stars.
21. VISIBLE LIGHT
•Our eyes detect
visible light. Fireflies,
light bulbs, and stars
all emit visible light.
