13. To eliminate bacterial organisms that cause oral infection:
• Amoxicillin 500mg t.i.d for 7 days in adults & suspension 125mg/ 5ml in
children
• Augmentin 625mg t.i.d for 7 days in adults & suspension 375 mg in children
• Tab Flagyl 400mg b.i.d for 5 days in adults & tab 200mg or suspension
200mg/5ml in children
• Clindamycin an alternative for penicillin-resistant patients
• Dose = 150-300 mg q6h for 5-7 days
• Tetracycline 250mg tablet q.i.d for 7 days
14. To prevent infective endocarditis
• Orally amoxicillin 2g in adults and 50mg/kg in children
• Unable to take orally then
• ampicillin 2g IV/IM in adults & 50mg/kg IV/IM in children
• Ceftriaxone 1g IV/IM in adults & 50mg/kg IV/IM in children
• If allergic then
• Clindamycin 600mg in adults & 20mg/kg in adults
15. Antiviral agents
To prevent oral herpetic infections associated with
dental procedures
• Valacyclovir 500mg 2 caps. b.i.d
To treat oral herpetic infections
• Acyclovir cream 5% (zovirax) 6 times a day
• Penciclovir 1% ointment (denavir) 5 times a day
20. Sedative & Anxiolytic agents
To manage short-term relief of symptoms of
anxiety
• Diazepam (valium) 5mg 1 tab in evening before bed &
1 tab 1hr before appointment
• Chlordiazepoxide (Librium) 10mg 1 tab in evening
before bed & 1 tab 1hr before appointment
To produce sleeplike state
• Flurazepam 15mg 1 tab h.s
