2. Plot summery
The protagonist is a young man named Callum Richards. Callum suffers
from depression, however he is unaware of this at the start of the film.
Throughout the film, he consistently suppresses any ill-feelings he
might have by shrugging it off and saying “I’m fine”.
By the end of the film, Callum’s pent up emotions explode out suddenly
when he lashes out and punches a mirror. Realising what he’s done,
Callum crumbles to the ground in tears; finally acknowledging that he’s
not okay.
3. Target audience
The target audience for this short film are teenagers/ young adults,
particularly those who have suffered from depression, anxiety, anger
management, etc.
The character of Callum represents a common stereotype among
teenagers and young adults who have to deal with, and commonly
bottle up, their stress and overwhelming emotions.
4. Cinematography
When framing the shots when Callum is with his friends, I plan to use
close-up shots and over the shoulder angles to hide his friends from
view – allowing the viewer to focus more on Callum and his slowly
rising frustrations.
5. Sound
When opening the short film, I plan on playing the bridge of a song (the
part that plays just before the chorus) before cutting it off with
dialogue – reflective of how Callum’s frustrations build-up before he
pushes them back down.
Throughout the film, I plan on having a song that’s heavy on drums and
guitar (heavy metal or rock) playing faintly in the background and have
it slowly rise in volume until Callum’s outburst at the end when the
music will be at it’s loudest.
