3. What is
Covid 19?
Corona virus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious
disease caused by a newly discovered corona virus.
It is an ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease
2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory
syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
•Point of Origin
The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan,
Hubei, China, in December 2019, and was recognized
as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO)
on 11 March.
4. How it affects humans?
The virus is mainly spread during close contact and
via respiratory droplets produced when people cough or
sneeze. Respiratory droplets may be produced during
breathing but the virus is not generally airborne. People
may also catch COVID-19 by touching a contaminated
surface and then their face.
The time between exposure and symptom onset is
typically around five days, but may range from 2 to 14
days.
There is no known vaccine or specific antiviral treatment.
6. PREVENTION
Strategies for preventing transmission of the disease include maintaining overall
good personal hygiene
Health organizations recommended
that people cover their mouth and
nose with a bent elbow or a tissue
when coughing or sneezing, and
disposing of any tissue
immediately..
Respiratory hygiene
Social distancing (also known as
physical distancing)
includes infection control actions
intended to slow the spread of
disease by minimizing close
contact between individuals.
Methods include quarantines; travel
restrictions; and the closing of
schools
Social distancing
Hand washing is recommended to
prevent the spread of the disease.
The CDC recommends that people
wash hands often with soap and
water for at least 20 seconds,
especially after going to the toilet or
when hands are visibly dirty; before
eating; and after blowing one's
nose, coughing, or sneezing.
Hand Wash
9. Impact on global
Economy
•Global shares take a hit
•Historic surge in US unemployment
•Travel industry damaged
•Far fewer commercial flights
•Chinese industrial production fell by 13.5%
•Oil prices fall
•Pollution clear amid lockdown
10. Countries affected
As of 29 March 2020, more than 664,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in over 190 countries and territories
12. How Italy & South Korea
differ in tackling
coronavirus outbreak
•Italy started out testing widely, then narrowed
the focus so that now, authorities do not have to
process hundreds of thousands of tests. But
there's a trade-off: They can't see what's
coming and are trying to curb the movements of
the country's entire population of 60 million
people to contain the disease.
•In South Korea, authorities are testing
hundreds of thousands of people for infections
and tracking potential carriers like detectives,
using mobile phone and satellite technology.
13. How Italy & South Korea
differ in tackling
coronavirus outbreak
•Both countries saw their first cases of the disease
called COVID-19 in late January.
•In South Korea, They've used testing aggressively
to identify cases — not only testing people who are
so sick that they're hospitalized but also mild cases
and even suspected cases. They've quarantined
tens of thousands of people who may have been
exposed to confirmed cases.
•South Korea has used data from surveillance
cameras, cell phones and credit card transactions to
map the social connections of suspected cases.
14. Reasons the coronavirus hit Italy so hard
1.Lots of old people: Italians have the sixth-longest
life expectancy in the world – 84 years old.
2. Dense population: Italy is a densely populated
country, with an average density of 533 people per
square mile.
3. Massive number of cases: As of March 25, China
is the only country registering more COVID-19 cases
than Italy. With far fewer people, Italy’s infection rate
is much higher than China’s
The study’s authors argue that this frequent travel
between cities and family homes may have
exacerbated the “silent” spread of the novel
coronavirus.
15. Conclusion
After all the analysis it can be seen that covid 19
which has become a world pandemic, has
affected more than 190 countries around the
globe with more than 680000 cases around the
world. In which countries like U.S,Italy,Spain have
got the most no. of cases and Italy is suffering
more than the point of origin(China).
Italy is suffering more because of several reasons
like, No. of old people, lack of smart measures by
govt. etc
On the other hand, Country like South Korea has
tackled this situation really good, like early
decision making, using smart tech to determine
cases.etc
So other countries should learn from both of
them. Their mistakes and victories.
