located in Delhi.
• Built in year 1980-82It was first project to house athletes
of Asian games, with 700 no. Of units.
• It is surrounded by Siri fort area near hauz khas village,
Delhi.
• Siri fort sport complex on northern side, Shahpur jat
village on southern side, green belt on Eastern side.
• Built on Khilji dynasty of Siri fort.
3. CONCEPT ASIAN GAMES VILLAGE - RAJ
• Influence from Jaipur and Jaisalmer urban pattern.
• It resembles traditional village and has similarities
with Jaisalmer city.
-The narrow shaded streets-streets linking a variety
of clusters
-The streets are broken up into small units, making
breathing spaces.
• Courtyard providing public space within the building.
• Grid pattern streets with square cluster planning and
vehicular access on either side of site.
• low rise high density with sequence of open spaces
linked by shaded pedestrian pathways.
• The sense, both of enclosure and of continuity are
maintained.
• The pedestrian movement areas are interlinked from
one end to the other.
• Based on a sequence of open spaces, interlinked with
narrow pedestrian streets shaded maintaining both
recreational and communal area.

• The central spine reserved for the pedestrian courts and streets of
various clusters.
• About 80% of the houses and apartments have access to
pedestrian enclosures.
• The public Courtyard accommodates a multiple of activities like
festivals, marriages, playing area.
• The interlocking courtyards creates micro-climate free from dust
and heat.
• The basic unit of 4 apartment linked with the
Courtyard that creates interlinking spaces.
• Each 2bhk flats faces an internal Courtyard
• A small cluster has 2 apartments on one level served
by a single core.
• A two small cluster share a Courtyard.
• 3 sets of two clusters each make a big cluster.
• The density of Asian games village is
15 units per hector.
• The combination of various dwelling type and unusual
diversity makes the Asian games village
quite remarkable.
5. CLUSTER PLANNING ASIAN GAMES VILLAGE - RAJ
• Houses are designed as interlocked usually in a block of
four to six flats.
• Each cluster has its own integrity, being drifted by large
darwazas or doorways, featuring of old city quarters in
northern India.
• The houses and roof terraces often overlook the streets
(galis) and the communal courtyards, creating a sense of
participation among residents, in what the architect calls
"the theatre of the street."

• Plan follows traditional method of creating shade via overhang shade, windows, and jali
in parapet.
• The ground floor has attached garage and storage unit with a small courtyard on the
entrance leading to the main dwelling.
• As we rise up we can see recess in the facade which acts as a terrace or balcony for the
unit.
• The 2nd floor has a mezzanine floor which acts as the third floor and leads to the terrace.
• Most of the villas are connected to the main vehicular road directly and have attached
parking with the house facing towards the Siri forts sports complex.

To combine as different permutations that mix and merge to shape new elements, each adding a different

• Each unit has its own private open-to-sky space, in the form of a courtyard or a terrace, also sharing a larger
communal garden area.
• The house clusters, give feel of the mohalla a sense of participation in communal activities.

8. Green spaces:
Lush of green spaces creating a micro-climate which in turn helps
to reduce heat effect.
The concept is based in the sequence of open spaces interlinked
with narrow shaded streets - careful mix of recreational and
communal areas.
Courtyards:
The front, communal courtyard is formed.
Spaces belong solely to the surrounding
inhabitants so they willingly look after them.

9. Roof Terraces:
The individual houses are linked together, sometimes as
terrace housing.
Vertical, with roof terraces at various levels and
courtyards in both the front and rear.
Gateways:
Gateways reveal another part into the square.
The Development Authority, advised them not
to put the toilets on top of the living room or
the kitchen due to leaking issues. They
suggested that they cantilever them out over
the street so accessible.
This trick also provided the gateways.

10. Material:
Crushed Delhi quartzite stone was applied to the surfaces.
Pedestrian pathways are paved with white or red sandstone. The
doors and windows to the houses are of metal with bright colors
Structure of beams and reinforced concrete pillars are coated
with pebbles of sandstone.
Central community quadrangle:
The central feature is a dining hall which has been
converted into a commercial and recreational
complex. Forming quadrangle, market place. In one
he covered an electric substation with steps to make
a space for sitting or playing around
