Is your family, money, community, business and yourself safe? What can you do to protect them
from unwanted events? If something happened, were you forewarned? Why wasn’t this prevented?
These are the few questions that trigger to ask ourselves that when an emergency occurs, the need to
communicate is immediate. If business operation is disrupted, customers will want to know how they
will be impacted. Employees and their families will be concerned and want information. These people
would want information, thus, an important component of the preparedness program would be the crisis
communication plan.
Crisis can happen anywhere, at any time and often occur when they are least expected. When a crisis
does occur, events usually unfold rapidly, leaving little time for planning. That is why advance preparation
is essential. Some crisis can be predicted and prevented, and those that cannot be avoided can be
minimized if handled properly. Therefore, it is necessary to handle crisis in a swift and organized manner.
Crisis Communication Planner is a 2-day course designed to help participants prepare their organization
for inevitable threats to reputation, execute the crisis communications plan, then, when the crisis has
passed, assess and do what must be done before the next threats occur.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the program, participants are expected to:
●● Learn how crisis communications fit within an organization’s business continuity program and
examine how the concept of crisis affects organization;
●● Learn to distinguish a crisis from a disaster and identify the ten basic crisis scenarios;
●● Determine crisis communications do’s and don’ts and learn crisis communications strategies;
●● Understand the importance of media training for a spokesperson and learn the attributes of a
●● spokesperson;
●● Learn how to construct strong, common-sense, provable messages that you can deliver and defend;
●● Identify the essential elements that should be included in a crisis communications plan;
●● Learn how to assess communications performance before, during and after communications crisis.
