Sargon of Akkad conquered Sumer around 2500 BC and expanded the Akkadian Empire. His grandson Naram-Sin took power in 2280 BC and ruled until his death in 2220 BC, after which the Akkadian Empire collapsed. The city of Ur then took control of Akkad and Sumer around 2100 BC under King Ur-Nammu, though he died in 2050 BC.
