The Pi Shop
ACE Cardiff is opening a Pi Shop! This will offer the children that attend our
Learning Clubs the opportunity to learn how to program a computer using new
and exciting Raspberry Pi technology.
Our aim is to introduce the basic concepts of programming to children in order
to instil a passion for the subject.
ACE Audio
ACE Cardiff is applying for funds from the Heritage Lottery to create a
unique radio drama about The Rainbow Club, the Butetown-based after-
school activity club for young people in the 1950s and 1960s. ACE patron,
Shirley Bassey was a regular attendee of the club in the 1950/60s and
credits it with helping to build her confidence.
The play will be produced, with professional help, by the children that attend
the Learning Club who will act in the play. The project was the idea of one
of our excellent trustees – Alison Plant.
EAR
ACE has formed an association with two other homework clubs in Butetown—Education Centre Wales
in Grangetown and the Riverside Club—so that we can, together, offer a quality provision to the
children of the area and will have a better chance of raising funds to sustain our operations.

following:

Current project news
Employ
ACE Cardiff is progressing Employ—our project that supports and guides people with special needs towards
employment—with a new association with Remploy (www.remploy.co.uk), the organisation that finds work for
disabled people.
Our aim, as always, is to help the more marginalised in society to reach
their full potential. In today’s climate, finding work is of paramount
importance to everyone, and we want to make sure that as few limitations
are placed in the way of otherwise extremely capable individuals.
TLC Corner
Our Learning Club is opening a branch in east Cardiff in the week
beginning 28th April for the benefit of the children of all communities in
that part of the city. The Club will be supported by Eastern High School,
ECLP Communities First and Cardiff & Vale College. We hope to
expand our after school learning successfully in an environment that
inspires the children.
Meanwhile, in Butetown, we have enjoyed the continued input of a
number of new volunteers, not to mention a small feature on BBC Radio
Wales thanks to Nye Prior and VCS Cardiff! We also know that a fair
number of volunteers had exams to complete around this time of the
year, so we wish them all the very best with their results.
The engAGE Project
ACE Cardiff has conducted a health survey on behalf of the NHS in its care homes in Cardiff.
We have also recruited some new volunteers who will help our Development Co-ordinator, Ursula Cunliffe, with
engAGE’s photography projects with the residents of St. Judes. Ursula herself has been busy working on a new
project that aims to bring the culture of various nationalities to the residents. On the 13th of February, The
International Project used technology provided by ACE and items provided by the National Museum of Wales to host
its first event that focused on Wales.
