THE LOUVRE
1.
2. THE LOUVRE
The Louvre is the
world's largest museum
and houses one of the
most impressive art
collections in history.
The magnificent,
baroque-style palace and
museum – Le Musée du
Louvre in French - sits
along the banks of the
Seine River in Paris. It is
one of the city's biggest
tourist attractions.
3. The Louvre,
however, was not
always a museum.
Originally a fortress,
and utilized as a
prison, palace,
administrative
office, and Academy
Gallery.
4. Its foundation dates to 1793, when the
Assembly decided to host here in
"Central Museum of Arts and
Democracy." Since then the collection is
constantly enriched, and now the
60,000 sq.m. of the total area are unable
to show all guarded treasures.
