2. Pans Labyrinth
Font: The text font is custom
made, as it fits with the theme of the
movie poster. The letters “R & L”
has been joined to the roots of the
tree. The font looks like its being
held up by the roots. There is also
white light behind the Title, this
adds more visibility to the title.
Tagline: there is no tagline on the
main part of the poster. This might
be because the production team
doesn’t wan to take the attention
away from the character who is
facing the tree/archway. By not
putting a tagline it almost allows the
viewer to interpret the poster
however they want to.
The poster has a 3d effect as it has a
layering effect, like the archway then
the trees, then the character in the
middle.
Credits: There are a lot of different
types of credits in the lower half of the
poster, like actor names, production
company, IMAX credits, the movie
website, directorial credits. But these
credits are on low opacity, making it
less visible and the more important of
the credits like the website name was
more visible than the production
company name.
The character is the centre of attention
as it looks like a little girl is walking
into what looks like an doorway. This
adds to genre as a fantasy movie.
Target Audience: The target audience for this would be fantasy lovers, and
even though it looks dark, perhaps children as it has an element of mysterious
adventure about it.
Layout: They way the poster has been structured is very clever, as the
important parts of the trailer like the centre of the poster, is light coloured/ it
has a white glow to it. This therefore gains attention from an onlooker. Also
the edges are blackened so you only see the central image. When you look in
the centre, then gradually look further out, you notice the giant moon above
what looks like a portal, but the main focus of the layout is the image.
3. Tagline: “In a game divided by
colour, he made us see greatness”
This is a very powerful line, as it
already hooks the reader on to the
movie, and tells them that it’s a
movie which follows the theme of
racism and how a person changed a
lot of peoples viewpoint.
“The true story of an American
legend” this adds more interest to
the movie as its based on a real
person.
The main picture and the theme of the
poster are similar as the colour of the
fonts and the suit the man is wearing is
the very alike. This is something I
would like to do in our poster, make
sure that the theme of the poster fits in
with the main picture of focus.
Credits: Compared to the movie poster
of Pans Labyrinth, this movie has a
very few credits, and it is placed in an
unorthodox, area of the canvas.
Traditionally the credits are in the
lower part of the poster, but in this case
it in the centre/top half of the poster.
The credits only consists of the name
of the two main actors and the
director/writer. Next to the release
date, there is the production company
logo ( legendary).
The title itself is short and sweet and
therefore making the name of the
movie more easily memorable.
Target Audience: The target audience for this would be fantasy lovers, and
even though it looks dark, perhaps children as it has an element of mysterious
adventure about it.
The picture speaks to the viewer itself, as we see a lot of common people
arriving from a bus, and then a man in a blue suit stands out from the crowd.
Then we notice that the man is of African/American decent, and he is the
minority in a mostly white crowd. The suit itself allows the viewer to
understand that he is the main character of the movie.
The movie is set in the past, the
viewer understands this from the
props used and the costume of the
characters. The Bus is the main
indication that the movie is set in the
past, as well as the fact that the
tagline says “American Legend”.

Unlike Pans Labyrinth, this poster has
a movie release date.
