• Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was
the 7th album by Elton John
which was released in 1973.It
was originally intended as a
single album but it was
released as a double album. In
2003 The album was ranked
number 91 on the rolling stone
list of the 500 greatest albums
of all time. The album has sold
30 million copies worldwide.
3. Digipak Analysis
• The album is mostly yellow and relates to the
title talking about the yellow brick road.
• This CD cover is conventional because the
cover relates to the title of the CD but not to
Elton John.
• The album comes with a cd which has 17
songs including the hit song “Goodbye Yellow
brick road” and a 30 page booklet containing
lyrics for the songs.
4. Digipak Analysis: Front cover
• The front cover shows a man
wearing red shoes stepping into a
poster onto the yellow brick road.
This is relating to the title along
with and all these features makes
a reference to the Wizard of Oz
story involving the ruby slippers
and the yellow brick road. This
helps to attract the target
audience which is young
people.The man walking into the
poster has “ELTON JOHN” written
on his back which tells the
audience that this man is Elton
John.
5. Digipak Analysis: Back cover
• The back cover shows a picture of
a poster with Elton's face and
signature in front of a yellow star.
This symbolises that he is the star
of the show and he is going to be
singing still staying with yellow to
go with the title. It also shows the
song titles with the song time
next to it. At the bottom it says
“All songs written by Elton John
and Bernie Taupin and the
copyrights details. The record
label is named as “The Record Co
Ltd”. The spine of the album
shows the title and the record
label who made the album cover.
6. Digipak analysis: disc
• The disk has Elton John’s name on plus the
title of the album and the design on the disk is
made to make it look like a record.
