Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski April 11, 1935- March 5, 2006
Early Life Born in Jersey City, New Jersey Family of mixed Polish and Irish-American descent Father Stanley Kuklinski was an alcoholic Dropped out of school in the 8thgrade Anna McNally Kuklinski (mother), was also abusive to Richard She hit him with broom handles and other household objects to stop him from stealing His father’s beating resulted in the death of his brother, FlorianKuklinski • The family lied to the cops. Claiming he fell a flight of Stairs At age 10, Richard would act out against priests and nuns at the Catholic parochial school his mother forcedhim to attend For his own amusement, he would torture animals Tied tails of cats and threw over a clothes line, threw dogs off roof, tied them to the bumper of trucks,
Beginning of Career At the age of 13, he killed the Charley Lane, the leader of a gang named “the Project Boys” Lane was a bully that Kuklinski wanted  revenge on Kuklinksi unintentionally beat Lane to death with a wooden dowel and removed teeth and fingers to avoid identification Felt remorse at first, then realized that he was powerful Moved on to become a violent Pool Shark and street criminal Contract Killer in Newark’s DeCavalcante crime family and New York City’s Five Families
Career Was part of the Gambino Crime Family and worked for Roy DeMeo Some methods included the use of cyanide, dismemberment, burial, having them crushed in junkyards, andfeeding victims alive to rats while filming Cyanide was favored because it killed effectively        and was difficult to detect  Called “Iceman” because he put some of      his victims in industrial freezers Has claimed to have murder over 200      people His career as a murderer lasted around 38 years Louis Masgay
Career cont. Was difficult for law enforcers to track because of various methods including fire, guns, knives, explosives, tire irons, poison, and beatings He did not show any remorse for victims and claimed that some were just for “exercise”  One case where he Felt remorse for one murder, he gave God 30 minutes to save the victim, causing the victim to wait 30 minutes for his death He enjoyed killing people that reminded him of his father the most
Family Met and married Barbara Pedrici and fathered two daughters and a son  Family did not know of occupation and  thought he was a successful  businessman  On the outside, family seemed like an  average happy family Family claims that he was very frightening Reported to have beat his wife and  children  Did not tolerate disrespect and wasknown for bad temper Told his “favorite child” that he would have to kill her and her siblings if he happened to kill his wife
Arrest Kuklinski’s friend Phil Solimene was hired by detective Pat Kane  Solimene introduced ATF secret agent Dominick Prolifrone to Kuklinski as if he were to hire him Prolifone recorded a conversation with Kuklinski, blocked off his street and arrested him and his wife, Barbara, for gun possession in her car Took multiple police officers to detain Kuklinski because an officer had put his boot on her back Convicted of 5 counts of murders Had to serve 2 consecutive life sentences  Confessed to murder in 2003, adding 30 more years
Death Death was very controversial  Died in St. Francis Medical Center in New Jersey just days before he was to testify for the murder of Peter Calabro under Sammy Gravano He admitted to killing Calabro with a shotgun  Kuklinski stated that “they” were trying to poison him After he died on March 5, 2006, all charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence Autopsy concluded that Kuklinski died of natural causes
