  43. 43. Every Victim <ul><li>Were all strangers. </li></ul><ul><li>She killed by gun. </li></ul><ul><li>She robbed them of all valuables. </li></ul><ul><li>She stole the car, usually for short term. </li></ul><ul><li>None of the victims had anything in common. </li></ul>
  44. 44. The Capture <ul><li>Police put out a state-wide paper and sketch. </li></ul><ul><li>Received several leads. </li></ul><ul><li>Leads named them as Ty or Tyria Moore, and Lee Blahovec. </li></ul><ul><li>Cops monitored them, Aileen got hotel room as Cammie Marsh Greene. </li></ul>
  45. 45. <ul><li>Volusia County officers checked area pawnshops. </li></ul><ul><li>They found in Daytona, Greene had pawned a camera and radar detector belonging to Mallory (Victim 1). </li></ul><ul><li>Aileen left thumbprint on receipt. </li></ul><ul><li>In Ormand, she pawned tools belonging to Spears (Victim 2). </li></ul>

The Thumbprint <ul><li>Found nothing on initial search. </li></ul><ul><li>Did hand search of Volusia county. </li></ul><ul><li>Found a match with a Lori Grody, weapons charge and outstanding warrant. </li></ul><ul><li>Bloody print found in Siems’s car matched a Lori Grody. </li></ul><ul><li>All info was sent to National Crime Information Center. </li></ul><ul><li>Received responses from Colorado, Michigan and Florida. </li></ul><ul><li>Lori Grody, Susan Blahovec and Cammie Marsh Greene were all aliases for Aileen Wuornos. </li></ul>
  47. 47. The Arrest <ul><li>January 9, 1991 </li></ul><ul><li>Bar called Last Resort </li></ul><ul><li>Two undercover cops asked her if she wanted to get cleaned up in their hotel room. </li></ul><ul><li>She accepted and they arrested her as Lori Grody on an outstanding warrant. </li></ul>
  48. 48. The Confession <ul><li>Cops interviewed Ty January 10, 1991 </li></ul><ul><li>She only knew about one murder, so cops gave her a deal to let her go if she helped snare Aileen. </li></ul><ul><li>She agreed. </li></ul>
  49. 49. <ul><li>She wrote Aileen to call her at her hotel. </li></ul><ul><li>Ty repeatedly told Aileen that she was freaking out and the cops kept asking her and her family questions, try to get her to same something incriminating as the cops were bugging the line. </li></ul><ul><li>Aileen accused her of having police officer’s in the room and Ty denied it. </li></ul><ul><li>Soon, after several phone conversations, Aileen felt comfortable talking to her and turned to protecting her. </li></ul>
  50. 50. The Final Phone Call <ul><li>&quot;Just go ahead and let them know what you need to know, what they want to know or anything, and I will cover for you, because you're innocent. I'm not going to let you go to jail. Listen, if I have to confess, I will.” </li></ul>
  51. 51. The Confession <ul><li>January 16, 1991 - 3 hour confession </li></ul><ul><li>She claimed there was no other girl. </li></ul><ul><li>Claimed self-defense. </li></ul>
  52. 52. The Trial <ul><li>Plead guilty to six charges of 1st degree murder. </li></ul><ul><li>January 14, 1992, went to trial for the murder of Richard Mallory, they sought death penalty. </li></ul><ul><li>Ty testified against her. </li></ul><ul><li>Aileen was the only witness for herself. </li></ul><ul><li>Her temper came out while on the stand. </li></ul><ul><li>They tried insanity defense. </li></ul>
  53. 53. The Verdict <ul><li>January 27, 1992 </li></ul><ul><li>Jury deliberated for 2 hours. </li></ul><ul><li>Found her guilty of first degree murder. </li></ul><ul><li>January 31, 1992 - Judge Uriel Blount sentenced her to the electric chair. </li></ul>
  54. 54. Her Death <ul><li>July 2001, She asked to stop all appeals and be executed. </li></ul><ul><li>“ There’s no chance in keeping me alive or anything, cause I’d kill again, I have hate crawling through my system.” </li></ul><ul><li>She chose lethal injection over the electric chair. </li></ul><ul><li>Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 9:47 a.m. was executed. </li></ul><ul><li>Her last words- </li></ul><ul><li>“ I'd just like to say I'm sailing with the Rock and I'll be back like Independence Day with Jesus, June 6th, like the movie, big mothership and all. I'll be back.” </li></ul>
  55. 55. Her Confession to God <ul><li>Final note she wrote days before execution. </li></ul><ul><li>Listed all sins. </li></ul><ul><li>Begged for God’s forgiveness. </li></ul><ul><li>She recanted her claims of self-defense because she wanted to make right with God. </li></ul>
