1. The Best Ways to Clean Walls and
Ceilings
Austin home cleaning service – Owning a home means having to
clean a home. Knowing how to properly clean walls and ceilings is a
great way to help reduce allergens inside your home. When this
becomes part of your everyday cleaning routine, it will only take a few
short minutes to complete. You’ll begin to notice less amounts of dust in
your home and an easier time breathing.
Here are the best ways to help you with cleaning walls and ceilings in
your home.
Cleaning your ceilings
Ceilings should always be cleaned first. This is because any
particulates you knock free from your ceiling will settle on your walls and
floors. When cleaning the best rule of thumb to follow is to start top
down. Popcorn Ceilings also don’t need to be cleaned as often as walls
because they don’t get scuffed as often as walls. The best way to clean
a ceiling is to use a duster with a long handle and a microfiber
attachment. If your ceiling has dirt that you find can be hard to reach or
remove with this kind of duster, simply use a paint roller wrapped with
duct tape.
2. To clean a flat ceiling, place a cup of warm water, four drops of liquid
dish detergent, and two tablespoons of white vinegar inside a spray
bottle. Then, spray the affected area lightly and use either a microfiber
mop or damp paint roller to clean the area. If you use the roller, cover it
with a clean white cloth that has been dipped in water, then dab over
the area once again in order to remove any and all soapy residue.
To clean a textured ceiling, use a dry paint roller brush to help remove
light amounts of dust. Be sure to stop every few minutes to shake it out.
If the ceiling contains cobwebs and/or heavier amounts of soil, you will
want to use your vacuum cleaner with a soft-bristled brush attachment
to remove these.
Take time to also wipe away dust from any ceiling fans, light fixtures or
air vents. Wipe dust away from the ceiling is only half the job. Be sure to
clear dust away from anything else on your ceiling.
Cleaning your walls
When it comes to cleaning walls, the first thing you will want to do is
dust them. Once this has been done, move any furniture pieces away
from the walls, which will allow you to clean behind them.
To clean painted walls, gather two buckets – one filled with one gallon
of warm water, the other with one gallon of warm water and two
tablespoons of liquid dish detergent. From there, start at any entrance
to the room you’re working in and work clockwise. Dip a sponge into the
soapy water mixture and wring it out gently until the sponge isn’t
dripping wet. From there, wash the wall in three-foot by three-foot
sections, beginning at the top and working your way down in circular
motions. Then, take a clean white cloth into the bucket of warm water
and wipe the just-washed area before drying it off.
To clean wallpapered walls, you will be able to use the same materials
mentioned above; however, you will also need to test the wallpaper for
colourfastness first. Choose an unseen area and dab the wallpaper with
water. If you see that either the colors run or the spot itself turns dark,
then you will need to use a method for washing non-washable
wallpaper.
