This document discusses the development of a magazine aimed at young female rock music fans between ages 16-24. Key points include:
- The magazine aims to represent its target demographic through the choice of a young female model on the cover and topics of interest like boyband posters.
- Distribution options considered are clothing retailers and online sales, with weekly circulation to keep the young audience engaged.
- Audience research found that images are very important to attract readers, so the cover photo aims to represent the rock music genre through the model's makeup and style.
- Various software tools were used to design layouts, edit photos, and present research for the rock-focused magazine. Feedback noted the high quality of the
2. My product looks like a music magazine, because I have looked other and compared my
to other real rock magazines and I have used some of the techniques and features, I
wanted to use a different type of layout to make it independent. I have used different
conventions such as Photoshop and Ipiccy to help the quality of my magazine look to
a certain standard. Iโd say it both conforms and subverts; it conforms because I have
mentioned about albums and posters and it subverts because of the font sizes, types
and colours.
My magazine theme is rock and Iโd say it fits into the music genre as because of my
colour themes, and the model image- her makeup defines the style of rock as it shows
on her pale face and the dark liner around the eyes, I would say the image would help
people to see that my magazine theme is rock. Iโve used my model to pose in a
certain way, and I was researching on other magazines to see the models would
normally pose, even if itโs a rock magazine, I still needed to think about, what would
attract my target audience (Young females 16-24). I have used editing techniques
such as high angles and close ups and for the mise-en-scene she wore dark clothes
to represent the rock culture.
3. My magazine represents the demographics Gender and age, itโs meant to be targeted to
young females ages, 16-24; The model on the cover represents their social group,
because the model I used is a young female herself and more audiences would feel
like they have an interaction with the magazine, the colour schemes arenโt too girly or
to formal because every female has a different favourite colour and itโs better I do a
simple colour theme but at the same time catchy. The magazine is reflecting the
representation of the intended audience by me adding subjects that they would be
interested in such as posters of boybands, any music they would be interested in
buying and gigs.
4. My magazine might be distributed in in clothing retailers as most females would be found
in clothes store, my magazine could be sold in the retailers, and it can also be sold
online because nowadays most young audiences use the web 2.0 to order and
purchase their things. As the process of magazines would take long, itโs better that itโs
circulated monthly and magazine topics can go on for like a month, but however as
my magazine is for the young audience, it should be weekly so that they can stay
updated and not get bored.
By the magazine selling well, pretty much depends on, whether the genre is popular or
listened to; itโs better to keep the audience happy.
5. My audience will be young females aged 16-24, age is the most important factor because
certain age groups are interested in certain types of topics/subjects found in music
magazines, possibly age the age groups could be interested in rock, but it pretty much
depends on what the magazine provides for them; for the older generation 30+ they
will be more interested in the old rock, mostly music and the sounds and for under
30โs they would be interested in gigs, competitions and posters, possibly albums as
well.

This is Kendall Rore a student, she is aged 19 and
her favourite music genre is Alternative rock, she
is very into Karissa Mikaelson and she enjoys
watching music channel Vault, her favourite radio
station is Kerrang where she can get her updates
on new music or her favourite music when sheโs
driving to work, she buys FORMULA magazine
weekly so she can plan to go to gigs with her
mates on the weekends.
7. My magazine was published by other professional magazines such as NME and Q
magazine to help form my audience, the layout has to stand out and it has to be
contemporary/unique because people nowadays are attracted to different things. The
font has to be readable and the image in front has to be something my audience can
feel interacted with, as with the poses, clothes and makeup as well as the person
modelling.
When i did the audience research, a lot of people 10% of the people wanted to see
images so the image was the most important as nowadays people prefer not to read
as much as before.
8. The processes were quite challenging as I had to use an SLR camera, I had to learn
where the main focuses where and decide whether to use flash on not considering
having the bright light shining in the background. I used websites such as TAAZ(to edit
the models face/hair features so they can look more like the genre they are modelling
for) I used IPICCY for the fonts and editing of the CD albums for the contents page,
and the layouts of where everything goes.
I have used slideshare to present my researches for the rock genre.
9. I have learnt about the sizes and colours, and making sure that you keep everything
around the same scheme otherwise itโll look fake. I have learnt that the presentation is
really important and that I have to be/stay dedicated to keep m magazine in line.
Others have said that, my photography is to a great standard.
