2. |Where did it start?|
Pop punk is a fusion of different music styles altogether as it
combines elements of punk-rock with a softer side which
causes it to be pop punk. It can also be described as a
variation of alternative rock, post-hardcore with pop melodies
and speedy punk tempos as the chord changes all the time.
The first useage of the term is not quite clear but it was
somehwere in the mid 1970s.
An early use of the term pop punk appeared in a 1977 New
York Times article, "Cabaret: Tom Petty's Pop Punk Rock
Evokes Sounds of 60s". In the mid-1990s, the California pop
punk bands Green Day and Blink-182, who were later
followed by The Offspring, New Found Glory and
subsequently by Fall Out Boy, would all achieve worldwide
commercial success.
3. Punk-rock
I would say that punk determined what
pop punk is right now, it dated back to
when the rock scene was all hyped up
about and bands like The Rolling
Stones, KISS, Queen were all popular.
The new outbreak of this music wanted
to incorporate that however put their
own twist on the style as well. Fair
enough all of that music had changed
the whole of the music industry, however
Pop punk was more about just having
fun and doing something for their fans
and not money.
It was meant to be a fun and enjoyable
genre which gets you moving.
4. Post-harcore
You will find that pop-punk has changed over time in what it
combines together but also what it sounds like. There has
been a massive difference in the sounding of the music
since the 1970s to now, 2013.
Another genre of Post-hardcore has been introduced and
combined with some pop punk bands to make a whole new
feel and genre, however they are still classed as pop punk,
even though they are infused.
Even softer and a slower styles such as indie can be
infused to make a whole new vibe of music.
The post-harcore influence are the band who chose to have
a much heavy tone to them, with harder lyrics and also
sounds of screaming intertwined with the band to make
them different
5. Many many influences
The orginal line up of pop punk were
bands like, The Offspeing, Green Day,
Blink-182 wheres as now you would
class, Neck Deep, The Story So Far
and Gnarwolves as UK's leading pop
punk bands when actually they are a
mixture of everything.
Pop punk has got many influences,
which makes it such a great genre
because of its diversity of upbeat
rhythm and bouncing lyrics which are
not taken seriously, it makes the genre
so loveable.
