Charles was a rich boy he owned
lots of land he lived in Asia.

3. Early life
Charles Heaphy was born in 1820.
He was born in Hokitika in a little cottage
He was poor so he could not go to school
He liked to explore his farm when he was little.

4. First job
Charles was a farmer for his
dad.
He only did it for the food from
the sheep, pig and cow. He
worked with his friend. (his next
door neighbour)
5. Second Job
Charles was a professional painter when he was 17 to try
and get some money.
But then the European settlers asked him and
Thomas Brunner to try and find more farm land.

8. Not in full flood In full flood
When he went on his first journey with a Māori guide called
Kehu. They
followed the Buller river to the West Coast.
He nearly died of starvation so he had to eat
his dog. The river was in full flood this made it hard to
survive.
9. When he made it to the beach
Nearly home
he shot a bullet out of his gun
sweet home
hopping for a big bake of
potatoes from the Māori but
there was no reply. so he had
to eat seaweed.
10. Charles life
1820- Charles was born.
1839- He arrived in Port Nicholson in wellington.
1846- He went on his first journey with Thomas
Brunner and Kehu.
1847- then he became a draughtsman
1848- He move to Auckland to work
1859- He joined the Auckland rifle volunteers, they
were like police.
11. 1867- he was elected as part
of Parliament
1881- he moved to Australia
1881- he died
