Early Life



Louis Joliet was born in Quebec,
  Canada 1645 September the
 21st. He was son of a wagon
maker. Louis Joliet’s father died
 when he was only 6 years old.

Louis Joliet entered the
roman catholic church of
 Jesus. He went to Jesuit
   School and was well
 educated, but he had an
 adventurous spirit so he
        got a job.

Louis Joliet’s followed Lucien’s
 footsteps. Lucien traded gun’s,
knives and other item’s. Louis
    Joliet’s first job was a fur
trader. He was working with the
  native Indians in Canada.

Louis Joliet was commissioned by
 the French governor of Quebec.
The governor was called Louis De
Bande. Joliet set off with Jacques
    Marquette to explore the
      Mississippi river.

Jacques Marquette was a priest
from the school Jesuit. ( That was
 the same school Joliet went to).
    And so they set off on an

1672 Commisioned By french governer Louis De
Bande to explore the mississippi with Marquette

1673 Louis Joliet finds out that the Mississippi
doesn’t run to the pacific ocean

1674 After a long journey back home Joliet arrives
back in Quebec
1675 Louis Joliet marries Clair Franciose

1680 The fort Joliet was staying in is captured and
Joliet’s wife is slaved

1693 Joliet is appointed royal hydrographer

1700 Louis Joliet dies in Anticosti, Canada
The compass was used by
                      Louis Joliet to point him in
                       the direction North. Once
                     your pointing North it’s easy
                      to find the other direction’s
                         East, South and West.
                           Without this lovely
                      inventiona lot of explorers
                       wouldn’t have discovered
