3. Description:
A video performance that will educate people about
deforestation and one of the effect of deforestation.
Problem Identification:
Instead of creating awareness the traditional way which is
just by handing out brochure, reading article and video
presentation. This is a different approach of creating
awareness so that people we more interested in the
message that is given through video performance.
Target User:
Young generation from age 18 to 25
4. Aims and Objective:
To create awareness about deforestation among the
youngster
To give people a different approach in creating awareness
that is more entertaining so that people will be more
interested to understand the message
Motivation
Many people especially the young generation feels that
they do not have to deal about deforestation because it
does not effect them in a big way so they feel like some
other people will deal with it like the government or NGO’s
in their country
8. Precedent Studies:
This is a performance art by Miwa Matreyek called “Myth and
Infrastructure” Her shadow interact with the animation and
become part of the animation.
11. Background Research:
Deforestation is a major problem in the beginning of the 20 th century,
four-fifths of Malaysia was covered by tropical rainforest (Sani 2004) but
now not anymore. Due to the urban development, logging, mining and
shifting cultivation so by the mid 1990s the forest have reduce to one-
half of its original cover .With the rapid development that is going on
around Klang Valley, Penang/ Seberang Perai, Johor Bahru and Melaka it
has change the landscape of the tropical rainforest because of the human
activity ( Sani 2004). There are many effects of deforestation like
landslide, the loss of natural habitat, flash floods and destruction of
landscape. Young generation need to know there are many impact of
deforestation to the human life’s so the forest need to be preserved so
that there won’t be any more damage done.
According to the dictionary of forestry deforestation means the removal
of forest stand where the land is put to a non forest use. This meant a
conversion of the forest to grass land for example grain field.
Deforestation involves cutting down trees, burning and destroying the
forest, the loss of the tropical rainforest is more than just damaging the
beautiful areas it. If human continue to destroy the forest the world
rainforest will disappear within 100 years and it will cause many
problems to the earth (Urquhart, Chomentowski, Skole, Barber 2007).
15. Storyboard:
1. The scene will begin with a forest that is so calm and serene where
birds are chirping, butterfly are flying and sun are shinning. Calm
instrumental music will be played on the background.
2. A shadow of a hand will appear the hand will symbolize a human
hands that can either destroy or protect. A butterfly will land on the
hand and the hand will touch the flowers and trees without destroying
them.
3.Suddenly clouds starts to darken a gloomy and dark feeling will be
portray and a loud machinery sound starts to play on the background
which will sound louder and louder. A tractor will appear and the
shadow will push the tractor and destroy the trees and run over the
animals.
4.A bare and exhausted land a sad music will be play on the
background, the lighting is dark and gloomy.
16. Storyboard :
5. Suddenly building starts growing the hand shadow will help the
building grow on the ground a car appear on the street, noises of car
honking , people talking just like being in the big city.
6. The shadow hand will appear from the sky and water starts dripping
from the hand which symbolize rain. The rain will get heavier and
heavier noise of rain and thunder will strike.
7.The city will be flooded by water and the city will destroy with a sad
background music.
8.Screen become dark and sun starts shinning and the shadow of the
hand will hold a tree sapling and put it in the ground, and more tree
will be on the ground.
9. Last scene the forest will be back to normal and a message will
appear and says " Be the hands that destroy or be the hands that
protect " the shadow will be next to the text.
22. Conclusion:
With this approach of creating awareness I hope people
understand about the message that I'm trying to deliver
I hope that by doing this video performance I can help
create awareness about deforestation and the effects
This topic is something that I am very concern about and
hope that I can make a change and spread the knowledge
that I have about deforestation and how important this
issue is
