Our Tree Planting
Success Stories
Nyandarua, May 10, 2024 - Mr. Ibrahim Auma, Nairobi City County Executive Committee Member for Green Nairobi, joined Nairobi City
Water and Sewerage Company officials and the local community to plant 1000 trees at Sasumua Dam, a vital water source supplying
about 12% of Nairobi's water. Located in Nyambini, Nyandarua County, this initiative marked National Tree Planting Day. Mr. Auma
emphasized Nairobi County's commitment to preserving water catchment areas for ecosystem conservation and sustained water supply.
He highlighted the role of trees in attracting rain, retaining water, and reducing flood risks, emphasizing the importance of maintaining
healthy water cycles.
Under the leadership and guidance of Director John P. Malawi, who
spearheaded the tree planting exercise at Railway Training Institute
in South C, the director organized for the tree planting activities
that took place in all sub counties of Nairobi, with Sub County
Environment officers who were the front runners of the exercise by
engaging with communities to promote tree planting, tree care
and environmental stewardship, as part of efforts in realizing a
shared vision of greener Nairobi.
The Environment Director called on the Nairobi residents not to lose
sight of individual responsibility to nurture and protect
environment.
“Our commitment to environmental conservation is unwavering
and initiatives like today’s tree planting serve as a tangible
demonstration of that commitment.”
“As we dig, plant and water these seedlings, let us remember that
we are not just planting trees. We are planting hope, resilience and
a legacy of environmental stewardship that will endure for
generations to come.”
Remarked Director Malawi.
