2. Influences:
For our horror trailer we looked at different horror films so we looked at The Ring, 1480,
The Others and The Ring 2. We looked at these because they all have supernatural
elements in them which is what we are including in our film.
Structure/ Scenes to Include:
Overall, the structure of the trailer will be linear as it tells the story as it goes along but
in shorter versions, however in the middle when the action starts to become more
intense it will turn into a montage which will allow us to sped up the editing and let the
order of the clips be random to show the tension building up.
The scenes we are going to include in the trailer are of Emily telling the story in the
college, walking up to the front of the quarry and also in the quarry. After this it will go
into the part where they are all at separate houses and the occurrences take place, it will
the go into the montage of the killings but not in order and only showing parts of them
to add mystery.

3. Generic Conventions
Character Stereotypes:
We have several main characters throughout the story as it follows each of their deaths but there are 2
prominent characters throughout. The first main character is a young innocent girl called Emily (16) she is the
geeky quiet girl of the group who warns the rest of the events that happened in the quarry, this is a convention
of who survives until the end in a horror film. The next main character is a girl called Kirsty (18) quite tall with
Blonde hair. She is the alpha female of the group and adopts the role of the leader so she is very outspoken and
loud, it was her who decided to ignore Emily’s pleas and makes the group go to the quarry in search for a place
to hold the rave. One of the lesser characters is Kelly (17) who is the quirky girl in the group with a different
dress sense in comparison to everyone else, she doesn’t really listen to the story of the quarry and decides she
is indifferent. However, she is the girl that the first scary occurrence happens to and this then spooks her and
changes her personality dramatically from laidback to on edge. Another character is Danny (18) who is the
eldest boy of the group but doesn’t adopt the alpha male role because Kirsty is a very dominating person, he
looks like a normal typical boy who is more concerned with getting drunk than the story. The next boy is Trey
(17), he is our stereotypical Black person in the group who is into Hip Hop and R&B, and he comes across as the
‘hard’ man of the group so he completely dismisses the story. Finally is John (16) who is the ‘Fat’ one of the
group, he comes across as dopey and not really too concerned with anything that goes on, but he is the most
wary of Emily’s story and slightly sympathises with Emily until his decision is overturned by the rest of the
group.

4. Settings/ Locations:
The locations we have in our trailer is the abandoned Quarry where the teenagers go to
check out the rave which is also the place of the death of the workers. We are using the
abandoned Quarry as abandoned places are a typical thing to use in horror films to suggest
danger.
Another location is each individual characters houses where weird occurrences will happen.
We are using the houses as all horror films use them as it shows how dangerous things can
happen in your own home which is normally a place of safety.
And the final location is the college the characters go to when they are deciding where to
go for their rave. We are using the college as it relates to the teenagers as it is a place where
they all go.
Props/ Costumes:
The costumes we will use are old working clothes for the workers at the beginning of the
story and also modern day clothes for the main characters when it is set in the present. We
will use these as they will help set the time when this story is based.
The props we will use are an old newspaper, some working tools such as shovels and
crowbars.

5. Cinematography/ Lighting:
The lighting we will use we generally be quite dark to create an eerie
atmosphere throughout the film and also blue undertones to represent
supernatural.
We will also use the old Sepia for the beginning of the story for the old
day workers to set the scene.
Use of Sound:
In our trailer we will use diegetic sound for when the characters speak in
the trailer. We will also use sound effects such as eerie noises. We will
also use eerie music and fast paced music.

6. Editing and effects:
In our trailer we will start of slow paced to ease the audience into it then when it comes to
the middle of the trailer we will speed it up into a quick paced montage where all the action
will happen in the story, then when it comes to the end we will slow it down to a shocking
finish.
Title screens/ Typography:
We will have the name of the production/company that made the film on screen, the film
title and the date the film will come out on screen.
Target Audience:
Our target audience will be between the age group of 15 to 24 year olds. It will be a
mainstream film which will appeal to the mass audience like the film Paranormal Activity.
