    2. SAP
      • Worldwide leading ERP software provider
      • Implemented in 85% of the Fortune 1000 companies
      • Also implemented in a large number of companies in all sectors of the Pakistani industry
    3. SAP UAP
      • SAP University Alliance Program (UAP) is a worldwide academic alliance that was started in 1996
      • Currently includes over 600 universities
      • Top rated universities include:
        • Carnegie Mellon University
        • University of Southern California
        • Georgia Institute of Technology
        • Texas A&M University
        • Penn State
        • University of California – Irvine
      • The licensed software will be available free from SAP
      • Access to SAP servers via Queensland University in Australia
    4. Objectives of the UAP
      • Access in classrooms to cutting edge software
      • Instead of textbook examples, simulate real business situations
      • Simulations of typical multinational corporations
      • Automation of different departments: accounting, logistics, purchasing, materials management, manufacturing, HR, etc.
        • Operations of technology enabled companies in the real world
        • Use of information to make decisions
        • Impact of decisions made in one department on other departments
      • Holistic View of the organization
        • Across different departments – encourage interdisciplinary learning
        • Breakdown the silos that exist between the different components of a business
        • Breakdown the silos that exist within academia as well
    5. Salary impact
      • A recent extensive salary survey was conducted by a participating university in the US to determine the impact of the program on its graduates salaries.
      • These included graduates in various majors including Accounting, Finance, Marketing, MIS, Management and HR among others.
      • It was determined that over a 7 year period business students who had taken SAP supported courses typically had salaries 10% to 20% higher per anum.
    6. Implementation
      • In the first phase, selected IBA faculty from various disciplines shall be undergo training in concerned SAP modules
      • Faculty members shall introduce these as part of enhanced courses in their domains from Fall 2009 (September)
      • These courses shall be converted to 4 credit hour courses, incorporating 3 credit hours of theory and 1 credit for lab.
      • In the lab portion the SAP component shall be taught as one of possibly several leading ERP solutions, to highlight the practical component of the course.
      • Courses include Supply Chain Management, Operations & Technology Management, Marketing Management, Customer Relationship Management, Intro to Business Finance, Financial Management, Financial / Managerial Accounting, among others.
    7. Road Map
      • Phase I
        • These courses shall be taught as part of the courses offered to the BBA-MIS and MBA-MIS students
      • Phase II
        • In the future such courses planned to be introduced in the MBA stream as well
