K 12 curriculum
1.
2. “Those who can afford pay up to
fourteen years of schooling before
university. Thus, their children
are getting into the best
universities and the best jobs after
graduation. I want at least 12
years for our public school
children to give them an even
chance at succeeding.”
Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III
3. VISION
Through the Enhanced K-12 basic
Education Program, it is envisioned that
our graduates will
Possess sufficient mastery of basic
competencies (literacy, numeracy,
problem-solving, etc.)
Be emotionally-developed and competent
to live a meaningful life
Be socially aware- Pro-active, involved in
public and civic affairs.
4. Be adequately prepared for the
world of work or
entrepreneurship or higher
education
Be legally employable
Be globally competitive
5. WHAT WE SHOULD
KNOW?
K-12 means Kindergarten and
12 years of elementary and
secondary education. K-6, four
years of junior high school and
2 years of senior high school.
The enhanced K-12 Basic
Education Program aims to
give every student an
opportunity to receive quality
education based on an
6. and decongested curriculum that is
internationally recognized and
acceptable.
It seeks to change public perception
that high school education is just a
preparation for college, rather it
should allow one to take advantage
of opportunities for gainful career or
employment in a rapidly changing
and increasingly globalized.
7. Since the enhanced curriculum will
develop the essential competencies
and skills of graduates for
productive work or
entrepreneurship, K-12 is not a plus
2 before graduation but a minus 2
before work.
Critics of K-12 say the the DepEd
shall focus instead on easing the
shortage of classrooms and
instruction materials, and
sharpening the skills of teachers.
8. Now on its second year of its
implementation, K-12 continues to
receive criticism both from the
teachers and parents. You may have
yours, as everybody in this democratic
society is free and entitled for their
own piece of their mind.
Is K-12 a boon or bane?
The answer lies n your own
experiences with this curriculum.
