2. Our Visit To Wat Thai Of Los Angeles
This is a picture of a statue located outside the Thai temple. It represents how
people ask others for favors because the statues kneeling down have something
wrapped around their hands as an offering.
3. Jatukram Ramathep is a Thai god meaning “four villages”. Inside the
alter there was flowers and candles as if people go and pray to him.
4. This is another Thai god located outside the
temple. People also pray to it and leave
meaningful possessions there. They are to kneel
down to him on pillows.
5. There are many other gods in the temple that
all grant different wishes. And they are prayed
too in different forms but mostly in silent
prayer.
6. Another alter. This is the most decorated alter that was outside. They
seem to take really good care of them and have them clean.
7. In respect to the temple you are required to
remove your shoes before entering the temple.
A monk kindly directed us inside.
8. This is the interior of the temple. As you can see it is well
decorated and very clean. The temple does not have any
chairs therefor people sit on the floor to pray.
9. This side of the temple was where people went to pray and give
thanks to the gods. People leave food and money there for good
well being and for good luck. The stuff people bring in are offerings
to the Thai temple.
10. These containers contained money to support the
temple and for good luck as well. It is filled with
flowers and candles to make it look pretty.
11. Our Experience
Our experience at the Thai temple was pretty enjoyable. We learned new
things about the temple, and it was the first time we experienced entering
a sacred place that is a different religion than ours. At first, we felt
embarrassed and felt like we didn’t belong there but then we started
conversating with people there and felt welcomed. We didn’t really talk
much to the people and were not able to acquire as much information
and facts that we would’ve liked to receive. Overall it was fun and different
from what we know.
