Science of man
• What is science?
• What is science comprised of?
• Is science of man predictable? Why?
• What is scientific method not?
• Does modern science of life follow scientific
method , why?
• Why following unscientific method is not safe?
• Why and how Scientific Medicine?
What is Ayurveda ( science of life)?
• Ayurveda , the Science of life is permanently
valid knowledge base to explain human being
and his life .
• Science of life incorporates all the natural laws
and theorems which govern every state and
stage of man through out his life.
• In-fact the capability of accurate predictability
based on cause- mechanism- effect relationship
of all phenomena in life based on the inbuilt
solid theorems and aphorisms is the perfection
of Science of life (Ayurveda).
Science comprises of theorems which are TRUE &repeatable
• A scientific theorem is repeatable and observed
true always.
– By you,
– By anyone,
– Any time.
• Examples:
– Hot water clears throat.
– Hot water clears throat in me, you and others as well
in all period.
– Hot water never blocks throat in any period.
– Science is that which is true in every period
Science follows laws of nature
• Objective reality
– We all see the same human being in every period , humanbeing in
past, present and future has two eyes, ears, same kind of stomach,
lungs , kidneys etc with identical manner of functioning of the body.
• Constant Laws of Nature
– A person with indigestion never feels hungry
– A person with diarrhoea never passes hard stools.
• The fundamental laws of of health and any kind of disease are
interpreted in its totality in Ayurveda along by their cause-
mechanism- effect relationship with respect to every variable
situation.
• Only the names of diseases get updated, the most fundamental
nature of diseases which afflict man yesterday, today and
tomorrow are the same.
Science of life is same
• Science of life does not vary from time to time
and so are the science of health and disease.
• A change from primitive dress to western suit
does not lead to a change in the process of
oral intake of food, digestion, metabolism and
nature of excretion in a different manner!
• Man is fundamentally the very same, as long
as he exists as man.
Science of life is standardised
• Hyper activity increases energy utilisation
irrespective of anybody, anytime.
• Excess diet would make a person inactive and
not hyperactive in anybody, anytime
• Impaired sleep would make any person
inactive anytime.
• Excess nutrition impairs normal uptake and
assimilation in any person anytime .
Observing standardised rhythm
• There is standardised biological rhythm specific
to each and every individual .
• One person’s rhythm varies from another .
• The intrinsic cause and circumstances and the
nature of body response to variable extrinsic
circumstances vary from subject to subject.
• Therefore it is important to consider the causes,
circumstances and “response of individual to the
disease” rather than the “individual” or “the
disease” alone in diagnosis as well as
management .
Scientific method
• Scientific method is science based method (CRATE)
a. Comprehension of the situation in the subject based on the flawless
knowledge in science
b. Recognition of the state and stage of the situation with respect to
the “individual and his intrinsic and extrinsic circumstances” on the
basis of scientific knowledge
c. Appraise the “very specific” cause- mechanisms in his body
responsible for the particular state and stage of his disease
d. Translate the scientific steps for “cause- mechanism “ reversal for
attaining equilibrium and health .
e. Evaluation of “results” in the body of the subject .
SCIENTIFIC METHOD REQUIRES “ APPLIED KNOWLEDGE OF
SCIENCE OF THE SUBJECT” FROM THE VERY BASE !!!!
Theories are unscientific
• A theory is a highly “successful hypothesis”, but “failed science”.
• All hypotheses make imperfect predictions owing to imperfect
basement knowledge .
• All theories lack true basement knowledge of cause-
mechanism- effect relationship explained in totality.
Result: Any theory is subject to change with our capability to
do tests or make observations of a test’s results and changes
with time.
But the interior of each humanbeing and his nature of body
response is very standardised with respect to a situation
through out his life. There cannot be many contradictory
theories to explain the same situation .
So a theory based on hypothesis is NOT TRUE &SCIENTIFIC at all !
Life sciences today
• Empirical observation  Hypothesis
Testing
Observe results
Accepting or rejecting hypothesis
• Accepted hypothesis becomes a temporarily
approved “theory”.
The UN Scientific Method today- IN
HUMAN BODY
1. Observe an event.
2. Develop a model (or hypothesis) which makes a prediction.
3. Test the prediction.
4. Observe the result.
5. Revise the hypothesis.
6. Repeat as needed.
7. An accepted hypothesis based on “observation” becomes an
“Unscientific” (uncertain)Theory.
Old temporarily proven theories causing damage to body needs
waiting for new temporarily approved theories with “hope for
repair”.
UNSCIENTIFIC
UN-scientific Method Head ache
Observation Head ache since morning
Hypothesis (prediction) Try a painkiller
Test Take a pain killer
Observe result Head ache comes down , but heaviness
persists
Revise hypothesis? Try one more pain killer
New test? Take one more painkiller
Result Heaviness increased, uneasiness in gut-
REVISE HYPOTHESIS ???
Pain killer
• What did the pain killer do?
• How did the painkiller do?
• Painkiller is not working on a machine to cut
off pain circuit.
• Man is primarily simple , but secondarily
complicated unlike a machine which is
reverse. ( Alex Carrell- Man the unknown)
• Are pain killers scientific remedy???
Un-scientific theory based protocols
• Kidney does’nt work?  change the kidney
• Pain?  Painkiller .
• Unable to walk?  Replace the joint .
• Allergy?  block the histamines or / and
immune response
• Not hungry yesterday ? Double nutrition
today !
Theorems are scientific
• Evolved by exploring the laws of nature of
humanbeing
• Capable to make accurate predictions in
accordance to variable internal and external
circumstances of humanbeing
• Testable and demonstrable by anybody
who learnt Basic and Applied science of life
• Can’t be falsified in any period
True science
• True science is based on theorems which has
got inbuilt reasoning ( cause- mechanism-
effect)for every problem in humanbody as
well as inbuilt solutions to rectify them.
• Modern life sciences follow unscientific
methods and are dependent on theories.
• Modern life sciences begin from uncertainity
(previous theory) and ends up in uncertainity
( an updated uncertain theory).
New start required in Medicine for Man !!
• Start from accurate and complete Science of life
(Ayurveda) for “any research in man”
• Comprehend the situation based on Ayurveda
• Recognise the situation based on Ayurveda
• Appraise the situation based on Ayurveda
• Translate science into the situation led by
techniques of Ayurveda
• Evaluate the results based on Ayurveda.
• Formulate scientific health care guidelines and
policies.
Science based Medicine
• Medicine recommended by science of life ( after
analysing multiple cause- mechanism- effect
unique to individual cause and circumstances ) is
called Science Based Medicine .
• Science Based Medicine is far advanced than
Medicine based science ( detached from science
of life )
• Science based medicine ensures long healthy life
of human beings.
• Ayurveda is the only Science of life Based
Medicine.
True research
• True re-search in life begins from true science
of life.
• True re-search is solely beneficial for healthy
survival of man .
• Fake research ends up in uncertainity as it is
unscientific
• Today what is counted as “scientific method”
in experimenting man and medicine is infact
very unscientific !
Testing for best
• Before we try to claim that treatment “X” is best
in disease “Y”, we must be sure that “it is the best
in all identical situations in humanbeings and it
will “stay best “.
• We must also be sure that it will contribute to
health at present and in future.
• Because the treatment is intended for man and
not “models”.
• Before we do research on “something” we must
be sure that the “something” is fundamentally
correct
Testing
• Testing alone never makes anything scientific .
• What is tested , why tested, how tested, where
tested, when tested everything matters a lot.
• Testing should be led by the Science of life (not
incomplete life sciences and statistics) with
reference to the specific situation in subject
which demands testing.
• The ultimate objective of testing should be
restoration of health and life.
Role of statistics
• Calculations in humanbeings differ from
calculations in statistics.
• Humanbeings follow the deeply scientific
“laws of nature” and not the empirical nature
found in sets of data sheets !
• Therefore statistical methods can never
emerge a “scientific medicine’ as they have no
connection with “Science of life”.
RCTs do not touch reality
• Today’s golden standard of “double blind”
randomised controlled study is blindfolding
“reality of human being” , but only observes and
takes care of data.
• Data based observation based Medicine is not
the “scientific medicine”.
• Situation based CRATE led medicine in man is
the Scientific medicine for man.
• Scientific medicine is intended for health , not a
combination of risks and benefits.
Uncertainity prevails!
• Who knows who will get more risks and less
benefits or more benefits and less risks???
• Who knows the benefits will never turn out to
be risks later?
• All are sure to get risks.
• There is no such thing as “certainity “ in
anything , if you go behind medicine for man
instead of man for medicine!!
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER !
• High time to revise the concepts of “ Scientific
medicine” for the sake of humanity
• The basic criterion for Scientific medicine is
that science should determine the medicine !
• Let us adopt the ways for “Scientific Medicine”
in reality.
THANK YOU

Truth of scientific medicine ppt

  • 1. THE TRUTH OF SCIENTIFIC MEDICINE Dr. Remya Krishnan PhD (Ayurveda) Associate Professor , Applied Pharmacology drremyaraj@gmail.com ( For special attention of World Health Organisation- WHO)
  • 2. Science of man • What is science? • What is science comprised of? • Is science of man predictable? Why? • What is scientific method not? • Does modern science of life follow scientific method , why? • Why following unscientific method is not safe? • Why and how Scientific Medicine?
  • 3. What is Ayurveda ( science of life)? • Ayurveda , the Science of life is permanently valid knowledge base to explain human being and his life . • Science of life incorporates all the natural laws and theorems which govern every state and stage of man through out his life. • In-fact the capability of accurate predictability based on cause- mechanism- effect relationship of all phenomena in life based on the inbuilt solid theorems and aphorisms is the perfection of Science of life (Ayurveda).
  • 4. Science comprises of theorems which are TRUE &repeatable • A scientific theorem is repeatable and observed true always. – By you, – By anyone, – Any time. • Examples: – Hot water clears throat. – Hot water clears throat in me, you and others as well in all period. – Hot water never blocks throat in any period. – Science is that which is true in every period
  • 5. Science follows laws of nature • Objective reality – We all see the same human being in every period , humanbeing in past, present and future has two eyes, ears, same kind of stomach, lungs , kidneys etc with identical manner of functioning of the body. • Constant Laws of Nature – A person with indigestion never feels hungry – A person with diarrhoea never passes hard stools. • The fundamental laws of of health and any kind of disease are interpreted in its totality in Ayurveda along by their cause- mechanism- effect relationship with respect to every variable situation. • Only the names of diseases get updated, the most fundamental nature of diseases which afflict man yesterday, today and tomorrow are the same.
  • 6. Science of life is same • Science of life does not vary from time to time and so are the science of health and disease. • A change from primitive dress to western suit does not lead to a change in the process of oral intake of food, digestion, metabolism and nature of excretion in a different manner! • Man is fundamentally the very same, as long as he exists as man.
  • 7. Science of life is standardised • Hyper activity increases energy utilisation irrespective of anybody, anytime. • Excess diet would make a person inactive and not hyperactive in anybody, anytime • Impaired sleep would make any person inactive anytime. • Excess nutrition impairs normal uptake and assimilation in any person anytime .
  • 8. Observing standardised rhythm • There is standardised biological rhythm specific to each and every individual . • One person’s rhythm varies from another . • The intrinsic cause and circumstances and the nature of body response to variable extrinsic circumstances vary from subject to subject. • Therefore it is important to consider the causes, circumstances and “response of individual to the disease” rather than the “individual” or “the disease” alone in diagnosis as well as management .
  • 9. Scientific method • Scientific method is science based method (CRATE) a. Comprehension of the situation in the subject based on the flawless knowledge in science b. Recognition of the state and stage of the situation with respect to the “individual and his intrinsic and extrinsic circumstances” on the basis of scientific knowledge c. Appraise the “very specific” cause- mechanisms in his body responsible for the particular state and stage of his disease d. Translate the scientific steps for “cause- mechanism “ reversal for attaining equilibrium and health . e. Evaluation of “results” in the body of the subject . SCIENTIFIC METHOD REQUIRES “ APPLIED KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENCE OF THE SUBJECT” FROM THE VERY BASE !!!!
  • 10. Theories are unscientific • A theory is a highly “successful hypothesis”, but “failed science”. • All hypotheses make imperfect predictions owing to imperfect basement knowledge . • All theories lack true basement knowledge of cause- mechanism- effect relationship explained in totality. Result: Any theory is subject to change with our capability to do tests or make observations of a test’s results and changes with time. But the interior of each humanbeing and his nature of body response is very standardised with respect to a situation through out his life. There cannot be many contradictory theories to explain the same situation . So a theory based on hypothesis is NOT TRUE &SCIENTIFIC at all !
  • 11. Life sciences today • Empirical observation  Hypothesis Testing Observe results Accepting or rejecting hypothesis • Accepted hypothesis becomes a temporarily approved “theory”.
  • 12. The UN Scientific Method today- IN HUMAN BODY 1. Observe an event. 2. Develop a model (or hypothesis) which makes a prediction. 3. Test the prediction. 4. Observe the result. 5. Revise the hypothesis. 6. Repeat as needed. 7. An accepted hypothesis based on “observation” becomes an “Unscientific” (uncertain)Theory. Old temporarily proven theories causing damage to body needs waiting for new temporarily approved theories with “hope for repair”.
  • 13. UNSCIENTIFIC UN-scientific Method Head ache Observation Head ache since morning Hypothesis (prediction) Try a painkiller Test Take a pain killer Observe result Head ache comes down , but heaviness persists Revise hypothesis? Try one more pain killer New test? Take one more painkiller Result Heaviness increased, uneasiness in gut- REVISE HYPOTHESIS ???
  • 14. Pain killer • What did the pain killer do? • How did the painkiller do? • Painkiller is not working on a machine to cut off pain circuit. • Man is primarily simple , but secondarily complicated unlike a machine which is reverse. ( Alex Carrell- Man the unknown) • Are pain killers scientific remedy???
  • 15. Un-scientific theory based protocols • Kidney does’nt work?  change the kidney • Pain?  Painkiller . • Unable to walk?  Replace the joint . • Allergy?  block the histamines or / and immune response • Not hungry yesterday ? Double nutrition today !
  • 16. Theorems are scientific • Evolved by exploring the laws of nature of humanbeing • Capable to make accurate predictions in accordance to variable internal and external circumstances of humanbeing • Testable and demonstrable by anybody who learnt Basic and Applied science of life • Can’t be falsified in any period
  • 17. True science • True science is based on theorems which has got inbuilt reasoning ( cause- mechanism- effect)for every problem in humanbody as well as inbuilt solutions to rectify them. • Modern life sciences follow unscientific methods and are dependent on theories. • Modern life sciences begin from uncertainity (previous theory) and ends up in uncertainity ( an updated uncertain theory).
  • 18. New start required in Medicine for Man !! • Start from accurate and complete Science of life (Ayurveda) for “any research in man” • Comprehend the situation based on Ayurveda • Recognise the situation based on Ayurveda • Appraise the situation based on Ayurveda • Translate science into the situation led by techniques of Ayurveda • Evaluate the results based on Ayurveda. • Formulate scientific health care guidelines and policies.
  • 19. Science based Medicine • Medicine recommended by science of life ( after analysing multiple cause- mechanism- effect unique to individual cause and circumstances ) is called Science Based Medicine . • Science Based Medicine is far advanced than Medicine based science ( detached from science of life ) • Science based medicine ensures long healthy life of human beings. • Ayurveda is the only Science of life Based Medicine.
  • 20. True research • True re-search in life begins from true science of life. • True re-search is solely beneficial for healthy survival of man . • Fake research ends up in uncertainity as it is unscientific • Today what is counted as “scientific method” in experimenting man and medicine is infact very unscientific !
  • 21. Testing for best • Before we try to claim that treatment “X” is best in disease “Y”, we must be sure that “it is the best in all identical situations in humanbeings and it will “stay best “. • We must also be sure that it will contribute to health at present and in future. • Because the treatment is intended for man and not “models”. • Before we do research on “something” we must be sure that the “something” is fundamentally correct
  • 22. Testing • Testing alone never makes anything scientific . • What is tested , why tested, how tested, where tested, when tested everything matters a lot. • Testing should be led by the Science of life (not incomplete life sciences and statistics) with reference to the specific situation in subject which demands testing. • The ultimate objective of testing should be restoration of health and life.
  • 23. Role of statistics • Calculations in humanbeings differ from calculations in statistics. • Humanbeings follow the deeply scientific “laws of nature” and not the empirical nature found in sets of data sheets ! • Therefore statistical methods can never emerge a “scientific medicine’ as they have no connection with “Science of life”.
  • 24. RCTs do not touch reality • Today’s golden standard of “double blind” randomised controlled study is blindfolding “reality of human being” , but only observes and takes care of data. • Data based observation based Medicine is not the “scientific medicine”. • Situation based CRATE led medicine in man is the Scientific medicine for man. • Scientific medicine is intended for health , not a combination of risks and benefits.
  • 25. Uncertainity prevails! • Who knows who will get more risks and less benefits or more benefits and less risks??? • Who knows the benefits will never turn out to be risks later? • All are sure to get risks. • There is no such thing as “certainity “ in anything , if you go behind medicine for man instead of man for medicine!!
  • 26. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER ! • High time to revise the concepts of “ Scientific medicine” for the sake of humanity • The basic criterion for Scientific medicine is that science should determine the medicine ! • Let us adopt the ways for “Scientific Medicine” in reality.
