1. How to Use Sources to
Promote Climate
Change Awareness By
Successfully Reusing
Content Across Social
Media Platforms.
By Ashley Raven Rodriguez
2. Using social media is probably
the most affective way to be
heard nowadays.
With so many people tied to their email,
Twitter, Youtube, Facebook accounts, and
just generally surfing the internet, it’s almost
impossible to be ill-informed with trending
topics.
But what makes a topic of interest rise to the
attention of viewers when they are constantly
being bombarded with advertisements and
other useless bits of information?
3. This slideshow will demonstrate how social
media and proper techniques can be
combined to produce a successful idea. In
this case, how Connect4Climate (C4C), a
campaign designed to raise awareness of
climate change, used social media to their
advantage.
4. The C4C homepage includes multiple familiar icons
and badges representing links to several social media
platforms. Included in their description of their
community, they have even included hypertexts the
viewer may click on that takes them to the C4C page
of the social media site.
5. C4C has linked their published information
with the most popular social networking sites
to initiate their cause.
6. C4C has recognized their online target audience and
how they are most likely to appeal and be noticed by
them.
7. They continue to stay live by promoting their content
continuously on multiple outlets of social media sites and
providing badges, icons, and links to their other pages, as
well as their primary website, for convenient access and
involvement.
8. C4C also uses these sites to promote
activities viewers can get involved with.
9. C4C is a successful organization
because they are progressive and
innovative when it comes to
communicating their cause through
social media.
One of their most successful social media
outlets is Twitter.
10. Twitter is a choice candidate for advocating
social justice and environmental issues, e.g.
climate change, for offering features such as
the hashtag.
Hashtags turn words or
groups of words into
searchable links, e.g.
immediate hypertexts.
They are a type of
metadata tag used to
identify posts on a specific
topic.
11. Just by typing “#ClimateChange” into
the Twitter search bar, I am presented
with the “top” or “all” tweets that
include that hashtag.
12. Legitimate tweets by public
figures can also be found.
By turning a word or phrase into a hashtag, you increase the
likelihood that others will see, investigate, and use it as well.
13. The hashtag is a feature that is now heavily
supported by all of the top social media sites.
14. Raising awareness and gaining support
through social media is as simple as a
click of a mouse.
15. In conclusion,
Know your target audience.
Know the format & customs of each particular site.
Create an image for your cause or idea.
Market your idea in a memorable sense.
Re-use your material on other sites.
Post small bits of info on your topic as bait.
Update regularly.
The more sites you use, the better your chances are of being
noticed by a larger audience.
