2. My design philosophy is simple: “Good design is for everyone.” I want the world to see that good design can be for all , having a safe and aesthetically pleasing living environment all contribute to ease of mind and does not have to cost a fortune. The choices I make in my designs reflect the current move to include the environment and its preservation, We need to preserve our world for the future generations to enjoy. Use and reuse is seen throughout my designs, making an object into another useful design is only the start, I want my designs and spaces to be a tool in helping people live more relaxing and fulfilled lives. There is beauty in the everyday things around us… I want to show the world how all of this can be incorporated in our everyday lives. Thank You, Phil Urban My Design Philosophy
27. Design Concept The underlying theme to be used here is “Under the Tuscan Sun”. The colors of an Italian sunset/warm wood tones with the richness of a glass of Barolo wine, and casual elegance of a bottle of Chianti al fresco under a fig tree. Old world craftsmanship, the curl on a wrought iron door handle, the soothing feel of tiles underfoot. Each room designed will take its beauty from the colorful Arizona landscape, the warm tones of mid afternoon. Furnishings will have the well loved feel of a family heirloom, each with its own distinct personality. When combined in a room as a whole, make for a casually elegant retreat. Spaces that are welcoming for entertainment and a space for fine dining, private spaces for simmering down and places for peace of mind. Character, best describes a home that has been “lived-in”, this home will have that character and room for more. Comfort is also paramount, and every room will have the pleasing effect of a cool morning breeze, a place to cuddle up to a good book is the best option. Decorative accents are the jewelry of the home and will bring out the character of its occupants and their lifestyle. It is said that Arizona has a certain spiritual energy, this energy will be incorporated in this home. The Cages will be assured that each aspect of this design will reflect their family lifestyle with the emphasis on safety and well being for them and their family. A place to proudly show to their friends and family.
54. My client is Suzanne Michaels, an Architect living in Manhattan. Suzanne is a busy professional, I want to create a space that shows her “creative” side in design, while allowing for a more fun loving relaxing side. I will create a “Modern Contemporary space, clean pieces that are well designed. I will start off with a “neutral” palette in the colors for the walls; Off-whites, Light Cremes, Cement and Sand colors. This background is a “canvas” for Suzanne’s love of “Bright” colors.I will furnish the space with well designed pieces some in bright colors, pieces that are very comfortable and fun. The neutral walls in some instances will be “shot” with color to accentuate the color of the furnishings. DESIGN CONCEPT My design influence for the walls and the layout of the spaces is :”Flowing Water”. Walls will be rounded, no harsh edges- the rooms will “flow” from space to space. Architectural details will be “sculptural and tactile”, expressing Suzanne’s love of Art/Sculpture. Suzanne’s Hobby is: Sculpting, I want to incorporate this love throughout the home, with pieces of Suzanne’s “Original Art” and art from various Galleries. This space will be “wired for sound “ throughout, enabling her to listen to the music she loves-wherever she is in her home. I must not forget her “other love”, “Sammy” Suzanne’s pet “Bull” dog. Sammy will also have his space in this home as well. A space possibly in the Master Bedroom, where he can also relax from a hard day. In the end, Suzanne’s home will be well laid-out to show off her taste in “good design”- but keeping it short from being a “museum”- I will incorporate “fun” accents throughout. Accents that will bring a smile to Suzanne’s face and all guests that enter. This space will acknowledge “good design”, but is a “Home,” fist and foremost. “Functionality” is paramount in this small space. I will meet all Suzanne’s basic needs for having: a Bedroom, Kitchen, Living and Dining rooms, a space for Bath and Work/Hobbies. Storage is another matter in this small space, I will incorporate many storage solutions throughout. Furniture pieces will have “double-duty as well as built –in units for all needs. No matter how “pretty” a space looks , if you can’t store your possessions and function properly, your life is made harder. Suzanne’s life will be made a little easier and less stressful in the end.
