Started by the US Catholic Bishops, Catholic Relief Services, began in 1943 settling war refugees in Europe. Once Europe regained stability, the agency sought to reach out to other countries around the world in Africa, Asia, Latin America.

At the core of this body of teaching is the Dignity of the Human person and the search for justi ce , which we understand as right relationships among people, following the example of Jesus Christ who sacrificed, so we could have a right relationship with God. Along with this is peace , the calling to prevent and address violent conflict and to right relationships though non- violent means. The Social Nature of humanity is the idea that we are connected into one human family and must be aware of the effect of our actions on the other. The Common Good states that a social fabric of relationships and conditions must exist to allow each person to reach his or her full potential. The Option for the Poor means making decisions to with the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable in mind. Subsidiarity is the principle that better decisions are made by the people closer to the problem and with a better understanding of the issue. Stewardship is the principle that calls us to ensure resources are used justly and equitably and with future generations in mind. Finally, we believe in solidarity , recognizing the fact that we are one human family, whatever our differences and that loving our neighbor has global dimensions. Our vision is tha t Solidarity will transform the world.

- Script: Somos CRS la agencia de asistencia humanitaria de la Iglesia de los EEUU, tu iglesia. Somos quienes ayudamos si hay un desastre natural, un terremoto o huracán, asistimos a los refugiados y desplazados victimas de conflictos armados. Apoyamos a las comunidades más pobres para que las personas tengan una vida digna: acceso a agua potable, educación y salud.
- Script: Joao es un refugiado Angolano que vive en un campo para refugiados en Zambia. El perdió la pierna en una mina al cruzar la frontera para salvar a su familia. Su esposa murió en el ultimo parto dejando 5 hijos. El recibió semillas y comida de CRS, ahora ha plantado maíz y esta orgulloso de poder tener darle de comer a sus hijos.
- Ana, es una niña Guatemalteca de 11 años, ella recibe una beca de CRS para cursar el 6to grado. Pero además de ir a la escuela, Ana les esta enseñando a sus padres, quienes no tuvieron la oportunidad de ira a la escuela a leer y a escribir.
- Rosa es una agricultora Nicaragüense. Antes le pagaban centavos por su café y no podía mantener a su familia. Hoy Rosa es parte del programa de comercio Justo de CRS. Ella trabaja con otros campesinos en una cooperativa. Ahora si recibe un precio justo por su café y además, ella y su familia pueden pasar consulta en el centro medico de la cooperativa.
