1. TASK 9 FORMAL PROPOSALS
Title of magazine
I have chosen to name my magazine LOUD; this is because it’s short and catchy, it can also can be
referred to as having up to date trends, as it is an urban term that is very familiar with my target
audience. It also has the connotations of being quite fresh and bubbly, to represent the freshest
magazine which includes the styles, gossip and fresh, new artists, like Rihanna.
Choice of genre
I have chosen R&B/Pop as my genre, as I already have background knowledge within the genre,
also as it is my personal interest in music. This is since I have always been influenced by R&B, as it
reflects my personality and style. Therefore I would know what would be expected in a R&B
magazine.
My Target audience
R&B stereo typical target audience would be White Males/Females; however I am choosing to
challenge this by aiming the magazine at all ethnicities around the world such as African and Asian
and also Chinese, all aged between15-25.
However I have also decided to use a White female to be on the front cover rather then afro-
Caribbean male, this is since R&B is very popular amongst white people although there aren’t many
white true R&B artists, so the magazine can be used to attracts all different types of readers.
Initial ideas for Front Cover
For my front cover, I am planning to use a medium shot of a White male/female artist, who is
dressed very vibrantly, also the image has to reflect attitude and sexuality, to show females can be
as powerful in the music industry. I have also decided to colour the title of the magazine hot pink,
and use it as the house style colour throughout the magazine. Furthermore for the sell lines, I would
like for them to be related to the artist on the front cover but also they should reflect the main
content within the magazine.
Initial ideas for My Contents page
For my contents page, the masthead will be a large L to represent the name of my magazine,
following by contents, which will be placed in a contrasting colour in order to stand out. I will also
place all the features along the side which will be categorized. Near the bottom there will be a row
of images which relate to the articles within the magazine and a main image in the middle which
relates to the article on the double page spread.
Initial ideas for my article
For the double page spread, I intent to do an interview with a celebrity in the R&B/Pop music
industry – it will consist of 20 questions. It will not be dominantly text based, as I will use the page to
devote to images, this way readers are able to find out their personality by giving a visual
representation. I will do this by using 3/4 different pictures with 3/4 different shot types.
Initial ideas for photographs
The front cover photography, I have decided to use a medium shot of my female artist. For the
contents I will use the dominant image of an MCU shot of the artist. However I have also chosen to
have 3 other images, which will be close ups of different features of the magazines, I will use a
mixture of males and females to show the magazine can also attract males. Lastly for the double
page spread, I want to use 4 different camera shots, to express the artist in the interview, I have
chosen to use a close up to reveal facial expressions, a long shot to show her whole body
language, a medium close up to focus the attention on her. And lastly a medium long shot to
reflect what her style is like. Furthermore I have used these shot types, as they most commonly
found within hip hop magazines. I’ll probably go for a plain background - maybe black.
