  3. 3. Accomplishments of Velazquez <ul><li>Diego Velazquez was the leading artist in the court of the King Philip IV. His famous works are Las Meninas, La Venus del espejo, and La Rendición de Breda. He first studied under Francisco de Herrera, a vigorous painter. After a year, he began serve as an apprentice under Francisco Pacheco. And in 1618, Velazquez married Juana Pacheco and bore two daughters. After, Velazquez went to Madrid in April, 1622 and in 1629, he went to Italy. After a year and half, he came back to Madrid. Then he went to Italy again at 1649 and came back to Spain and enjoyed his last years. </li></ul>
