• Why Crayon Magazine
– Target: Primary school children from Class 1 to Class 6

2. As an Alternative Educational Reading Resource

Platform to bridge Rural and Urban schools in
order for them to learn from each other.

3. Project: Children’s Writing Project
• Under inspiration from the African Leadership
Initiative (A.L.I.)
– The Africa Leadership Initiative seeks to develop the
next generation of community-spirited leaders of
Africa, beginning in
Ghana, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Mozambique and
South Africa.
• Funded by TYPE Company Ltd in partnership with
PrintAid Foundation (an NGO)
– The Children’s Writing Project seeks to impact our
society by offering young children an opportunity to
discover and build up their talent

•Our Vision
– To get children writing.
– To improve the quality in the writing standards of
Ghanaian school children
– To bring the writing activity down to the level of
school children and expose them to more
contemporary learning aids.
– To serve as a supplementary to the teaching and
learning of writing as a subject.

5. Project Implementation
• The Children’s Writing Project: An initiative of
PrintAid Foundation and TYPE Company Ltd
– With an Office to be setup in Accra, this Project
invites partnership with all the schools that form
part of the Foundation for Education, Research &
Development (FERD).
– There will be two major launches; a media launch
and the official launch to be held at a selected
FERD School.

– This project is designed to be an extra-curricular
activity.
– The first edition of Crayon Magazine is scheduled
to be outdoored in 3rd Quarter 2010.
– Seek partnership with already established or
existing Reading, Writers and Debating Clubs in
the primary schools
– More primary schools would be integrated as the
Project grows.

7. Why FERD Schools?
• In partnering with FERD schools, the following
shared objectives and benefits are anticipated:
The FERD schools form the benchmark or standard for
other schools to look up to.
Widely known as centres of academic excellence, the
FERD schools have the opportunity to affirm this
standard.
Pupils from the less endowed, rural schools have the
opportunity to learn from their counterparts in elite
urban schools
8. Our Expectations from FERD Schools
• Support needed from school management and
teachers in organising activities, selecting
magazine content, and sustaining this worthy
cause.
• As direct beneficiaries of the Writing Project, our
partner schools are of utmost importance to this
project.
• Proactive cooperation to ensure the maximum
impact of this project would be felt among the
children.

• Focus on Primary school pupils, then pre-school and later JHS.
• Hope to sponsor children in their academic work - focus remains
on improving the writing talent
• Evaluation and feedback to aid us improve magazine (Project)
• Sponsorship: we hope it remains a self-sustaining project
• Assurance that the magazine will remain free
• Free distribution of copies to be expanded nationwide
• Web presence (portal to link participatory school websites).
• Collection of best written articles to be published in a book (that
would be distributed to schools to serve as supplementary
readers)
The primary objective of the children’s writing project is to create a platform for children to write. A unique opportunity of acquiring education through fun activities, mini projects, etc.Also encourage the habit of writing to motivate children to express themselves through other extra-curricular activities such as quizzes and competitions through a credible, reputable, quality magazine.
-> To have access to a magazine that will aid them in writing as well as to cultivate a habit of reading educative material.
The official launching of the Project is set for a date yet to be announced.
Care will been taken not to interference with normal academic programs and activities of the participatory schools. Schoolswho agree to be part of the Project will be integrated into the magazineThe School Clubs could be allowedto serve as representatives for the magazine or quasi-editorial teams or committees where possible.
