1. Field Trip: Community Tour
Choose one or more of the following field trip activities to complete with your parent.
Visit a Local Community Organization
See how your city is run. Visit a local community organization and find out how this organization
works. Create a set of interview questions with your parent and interview one of the workers
there. These organizations are an important part of your community. You may even grow up to
work in one of these fields! Suggested organization to visit:
• Police Station
• Fire Department
• City Hall
• Post Office
• Telephone companies
• TV stations
• Hospitals
• Local Newspaper
Friends, Family and Community Members
Interview a local community member, family member, or friend of the family. Find out what their
career entails and find out what the community was like when they grew up. Here are some
suggested community members you can interview:
• Clergy Member
• Camp Counselor
• Teachers
• Coaches
• Local Businesses
Visit a Local Historical Site
Visit a local historical site and then create a brochure, PPT or commercial telling about the things
that you learned. Here are some suggested sites for you to visit:
• Washington’s Headquarters
• Knox’s Headquarters
• New Windsor Cantonment
• Ritz Theater
