1 8 Mitosis

 1. 1. Launch

Get out the following four assignments for your homework packet

-Review Sheet from Monday

-Enzyme Letter from Tuesday

-Enzyme Worksheet from Tuesday

-Cell cycle worksheet from Thursday

If time answer the following question:

What are the three main stages of the cell cycle and what happens in each?

 2. 3. MITOSIS The process a cell uses to copy its DNA and create two identical daughter cells
 3. 4. Pre-Mitosis: INTERPHASE

This is where the cell spends most of its time

Cell grows, gain nutrients, copies DNA

DNA is “just chillin” in the nucleus

 4. 5. Interphase = In-between
 5. 6. Step 1: PROPHASE

DNA condenses into chromosomes

Chromosomes pair up with their exact copy

Nucleus breaks down

 6. 7. Prophase = Pairs
 7. 8. Step 2: METAPHASE

Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

Chromosomes are attached to fibers that stretch from the poles to the middle of the cell

 8. 9. Metaphase = Middle
 9. 10. Step 3: ANAPHASE

The stage when chromosomes separate

Each singular chromosome pulled to opposite sides of the cell by fibers in the cell

 10. 11. Anaphase = Apart
 11. 12. Step 4: TELOPHASE

Cell membrane pinches off to form two cells

Nuclear envelope reforms around DNA

Chromosomes uncondense

 12. 13. Telophase = Two Cells
