Ib is a difficult and complex thing to understand at times. It keeps growing and developing, but that is what we should all be doing…That is what education should be about, growing and developing…never being stagnent
This is not an easy process. It’s easier to go to a text book and let it tell you what to do. For example, students in middle school are presented real life problems and asked to design a solution that will include design, action, reflection… Talk about PBL and technology and art not like the traditional way we think about it. It is deisnged to be interdisciplinary and use all aspects. IB VIdeo
The other thing it means to be IB is to have the community embrace these attributes of life long learning. The attributes of the learner profile express the values inherent to the IB continuum of international education: these are values that should infuse all elements of the three programmes and, therefore, the culture and ethos of all IB World Schools. IB programmes promote the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge. These are researched back attributes of scholars and disciplinarians…Draw your attention to the caring and risk takers (get in trouble on Wall Street when we don’t to grow learners who care, and can’t get risk takers who will be willing to step out of the box and imagine an answer to problems like global warming if they have never been encouraged to take a risk and observed it in others…)
This all means we are cultivating the garden…laying the ground work. It requires staff development and collaboration in order to create inquiry based learning. It is a huge endeaovor and we plan to do it well, so that our students benefit always.
