Concept Searching’s technology platforms deliver
semantic metadata generation, auto-classification and
taxonomy/Term Store management, and are fully
integrated with all versions of SharePoint on-premises,
Microsoft Online/Office 365, and OneDrive for Business
What Do We Do?
These infrastructure platforms integrate not only with
SharePoint but also other content repositories, search
engines and file shares, enabling our clients to add
structure and manage their enterprise content,
regardless of environment
The resulting classification metadata is used by clients
to deliver ‘intelligent metadata solutions’ in areas such
as enhanced search, migration, data privacy, records
management, policy enforcement, compliance, text
analytics, and business and social collaboration

SharePoint and Office 365 State of the Industry Survey
• Concept Searching’s fourth annual survey
• Conducted from March 2016 to June 2016
• 413 unique responses
• Survey was available via social, news, and the
Concept Searching website
• Survey was not sent to clients or prospects
• Objectives
• SharePoint infrastructure, application priorities, use of
metadata, and SharePoint Managed Metadata Services
• Current or projected use of Office 365, OneDrive for
Business, SharePoint Online and associated applications
• Questions were multiple choice and respondents could select
more than one response, therefore numbers do not add up to
100%
• Numbers have been rounded up or down
• Maintained vendor neutrality

Microsoft
“Thus, the gulf between on-premises and the cloud has never been
wider, and – despite Redmond’s recent improvements – any hybrid
strategy will require custom code and ongoing frustration to succeed.
To be sure, Office 365 will start to offer ‘portal’ applications in 2016, but
these are likely to be highly preconfigured products, rather than
traditional SharePoint development environments.”

• The rise of advanced, PC-grade mobile
malware, innovative fraud schemes,
such as SIM swap fraud, and fraudsters’
increasing use of mobile devices in
cross-channel attacks pose a significant
threat
“Mobile threats and malware
are still in their infancy, and the
risk isn’t significant enough yet.
It’s time to think again.”

“It is simply not realistic to expect broad sets of employees to navigate
extensive classification options while referring to a records schedule
that may weigh in at more than 100 pages.”

Workflows
“As complexity of workflow increases, you will need to use other tools
to model those workflows, and you will probably need multiple tools,
including Visio, Visual Studio, and perhaps even the Workflow SDK.
Depending on your technical skills and licensing arrangements, this
could be cumbersome and expensive.”

Enterprise Search
“By itself the search function has limited value. The real value of search
and information access technologies is in the ongoing efforts needed to
establish effective taxonomies, to index and classify content of all
kinds, in order to provide meaningful results.”
Tom Eid, Research Vice President – Gartner Group

Hybrid Search
Somewhat Surprising
• 38.7% Extremely Important
• 39.7% Nice to have
• 21.6% Not important

Security
According to Osterman Research, 95% of business users primarily
communicate via email. Of emails sent, 98% were sent with attachments.
Secure? Highly doubtful. Mobile devices and BYOD have unlocked a
hornets' nest and put security of confidential information at risk.

Security
• False sense of security?
• Is after the fact good enough?
• Is real time important?
• BYOD and BYOA have blurred
personal versus business
• Personal applications,
email, unsafe websites
