- For many of us, summer reading programs represent the most sacred of cows. When we started our jobs, we learned HOW.IT.IS.DONE. Even if our predecessor was no longer there, the director, the board, our co-workers and even our patrons had strong thoughts about HIID. It makes it tough not to feel like "Who am I to change things?" But really, when it gets right down to it, you ARE the one with the knowledge and ability to make change happen.
- Why do we do SLP? Summer slide is real Show video and talk about visceral effect even though we know this is true But We’ve Always Done It This Way isn’t a good reason to keep doing “it” Don’t throw baby out with bathwater Do carefully consider how what you’re doing helps keep kids learning during the summer How do you make that learning fun Performers -- what are you aiming for Prizes -- what do they bring to the program? Know your demographics; talk to families -- at the library, at your religious organization, in the grocery store (more on this in a minute) Convincing the powers that be Recognizing that change may be a process

- SG will talk about the manga drawing kids and can also talk about “intentional activities”
