Dear Judges,
My name is Maidie Knight, and I am a senior at Creekview High School. I plan to go to Kennesaw State
University and join the nursing program. Growing up, I had very sick grandparents who I would help take care
of. I was inspired when my grandmother told me I would make a great nurse someday. She passed away in
September of 2011. I feel like I know how to take care of sick people mentally and physically and that I should
pursue a career in what I believe I am meant to do. Nursing is my dream job; however; I have always had an
interest in music. The guitar has always interested me and this project gave me the perfect opportunity to learn
how to play.
My product for this project is to play a song on the guitar. I received a Yamaha acoustic guitar as a present a
few years ago on Christmas from my father. The fact that he went out and bought me one encouraged me even
more to learn. In my research paper, I learned about the history of this instrument. The acoustic guitar dates
back for centuries and has improved greatly. It is the basis of almost all of our music. I am lucky to have learned
how to play this instrument and have had a lot of fun doing so; however, it was not easy. I struggled when I first
started out because I have small hands, bad hand-eye coordination, and I was very slow. Practice was all I knew
for those seven months. It may have been difficult but I had a great project facilitator, Spencer Bobo, who
taught me the ropes and kept my spirit up.
Learning to play the acoustic guitar will not have any effect on my future career. I do not wish to partake in the
music industry. It is simply a hobby. Senior Project gave me the perfect opportunity to do what I have been
wanting to for years, especially because I absolutely had to stick to it. I have also learned that I need to enhance
my time management skills and keep in mind that procrastination is a very bad thing.
Senior Project was a huge learning experience. At first, I was stressed and very scared to start this project. Now,
I have realized what its point is. It is here to teach us and prepare us for the future when we are given big, time-
regulated projects. Also, it is here to give us options and open us up to possible future careers. Senior Project
was a challenge, but well worth it.
Sincerely,
Maidie Knight
