Cal Tyner wrote a letter to thank the judges for evaluating his senior project. For the project, he created and produced a dubstep mix-tape to research the emerging genre of dubstep music. Through his research, he learned about the history and future of dubstep and how to use computer programs to create dubstep music. Completing the project helped him realize his interest in pursuing a career in music production, which can be applied to careers like producing commercial music. He believes senior projects are valuable for teaching life skills to students.

Dear Judges:
First of all, I would like to thank you for volunteering your time to judge my Senior Project. My
name is Cal Tyner and I have extraordinary goals set for my life. After graduating, I plan to
attend Auburn University. Although I am not sure what field I would like to study, I aspire to do
great things with my life. Now, the topic I chose for my Senior Project is music production. I
created and produced a mix-tape with an unusual genre called dubstep, which is similar to
electronic dance music, or EDM.
For my research paper, I investigated how this type of music came about, what lies in the future,
and how to create the music itself. Although this genre of music is new and still developing, it
has become one of the largest, fastest growing music communities in the world today. Given that
dubstep is quite new, there was not much history to research. Instead, I researched what
computer programs I would need to use to create my product and how I would go about
completing the product itself. In the end, my research was quite helpful; it provided a common
knowledge about this topic that I was unaware of before, which allowed myself to achieve my
final product goal.
When I first started my Senior Project, I had aspirations to study to become a professional music
producer. In society today, there are so many sounds and instruments that we are accustom to
hearing, but we do not pay attention to how those sounds are created or produced. Indeed, my
project was to create and produce music, but with those particular skills, there are multiple fields
in the work environment that are available. For example, each person must see over fifteen to
twenty commercials each day, all of which have some sort of sound or music intertwined within.
Music production is a broad topic that can be compatible with several different careers.
Overall, senior year is about memories, preparing ourselves for the world, and, of course, Senior
Project. Although most students dread the process of Senior Project, I respect the skills and
experience that it teaches us all. I believe that Senior Project should be made necessary by all
schools, in order to teach valuable life skills to students.
Sincerely,
Cal Tyner
