Coming-of-age drama film ‘Ebony’
Audience member one
         
This is Abbie, she is what a typical example
of an audience member for 'Ebony' would
look and be like. She is 16 years old from
Sheffield and enjoys shopping with her
friends for clothes at weekends and going
to parties with them. She dresses like a
'generic' teenage girl would dress, simply
jeans and t-shirts with not a lot of make up
however she wears more make up when
she goes out with dresses and heels. She
likes watching films such as 'Juno', '500
Days Of Summer', 'Angus, Thongs and
       Perfect Snogging', 'Mean Girls', 'A
Cinderella Story' and enjoys going to the
cinema to see the latest releases of these
       teen aimed romantic-comedy and coming-
       of-age drama movies.
Audience member one
I believe that Abbie is part of our audience
           
group because her interests contain key
       conventions of the coming-of-age drama
genre as well as her age being the same as
the protagonist's so she can easily relate to
the character and possibly feel greater
empathy for her than someone who is older.
I also think that 'Ebony' would appeal to her
well as it is from the same or similar genre
as other films she enjoys. I feel she would be
attracted to the film if she were to see the
trailer as I believe that to promote our film
effectively, the main element of the trailer
would be the party scene. Being as she
enjoys dressing up conventionally like our
protagonist and extra characters seen in the
party scene, she would find this appealing
so therefore might encourage her to watch
       the film.
Audience member two
This is Nathan, he is 17 years old and lives in
Reading, I believe that he would also be a

            
member of our audience for the coming-of-age
drama film 'Ebony'. He enjoys music and
attends festivals with his friends in the
summer as well as football matches where he
supports Chelsea and also plays for his local
under 18's team on a Sunday. He takes comfort
in movies and goes to the cinema most
Wednesdays as he gets priority with his phone
company 'Orange'. The main genre of film he
enjoys are disaster movies and drama films
with teenage based narratives as he can relate
to the characters easily because he likes to take
a step out of his own reality to experiences
someone else's. Films such as 'Slumdog
      Millionaire', 'The Hunger Games', 'The
Breakfast Club', 'Never Let Me Go' and 'The
Girl Who Played With Fire' are the types of
      movies Nathan would enjoy watching.
Audience member two
Even though the primary audience group for

           
'Ebony' is females like Abbie, I still feel that
Nathan would fit into the audience well as it
is from the same or related genre as the
typical examples of films he would go to the
cinema to see. As well as the main
protagonist being a female, the male
character also plays a key role within the
film so Nathan could easily relate to him and
feel more sympathy for him than a female
audience member would perhaps. I believe
he would be attracted to the film because of
the way the characters are portrayed as he
would know that they are of his age so he
       would understand the narrative more
because of the way he can easily relate to
them and their problems which would
       therefore create some encouragement for
him to go and watch the film.
