  1. 1. Open Kent Web Portal A guide for data publishers to upload datasets V 1.0 Author: Matthew Kerr 6 th May 2011

Logging in to the IBM Mashup Center <ul><li>Go to the web address http:// open.kent.gov.uk /mum/enabler </li></ul><ul><li>In the ‘User ID’ field, type in your assigned username. </li></ul><ul><li>In the ‘Password’ field, type in your password. </li></ul><ul><li>Next click ‘Log In’. This will take you to the home page of the IBM Mashup Center. </li></ul>

Add a dataset to the ‘Catalog’ <ul><li>To upload your dataset onto the IBM Mashup Center you will need to go to the ‘Catalog’. </li></ul><ul><li>To do this click on the drop down ‘Actions’ tab, and select ‘Open Catalog in a dialog box’ or ‘Open Catalog as a New Page’. </li></ul><ul><li>You will now see a list of all existing data sets that can be sorted by ‘Title’, ‘Rating’, ‘Author’ or ‘Date’. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Add a dataset to the ‘Catalog’ <ul><li>Next click on the drop down ‘Create’ tab and select ‘New Feed’. </li></ul><ul><li>This will open up a new page called ‘Select the feed data source’. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Select the feed data source <ul><li>Now select the feed data source. For example if you are uploading a dataset from a spreadsheet you would select ‘Excel Workbook’. Or if you are uploading a data feed where the source is a URL you would select ‘Atom or RSS feed’. (Note you may need to scroll the window to the right to access the vertical scroll bar in order to reveal all the data source types ) </li></ul><ul><li>Once you have selected the correct feed data source, click ‘Next’. This will take you to a page called ‘Specify information about……’ </li></ul>

Specify Information about your data <ul><li>On this page you will need to click on ‘Upload File’ and type in or browse to the file path, and then complete the relevant information fields as directed. </li></ul><ul><li>Or else, if you are uploading from a URL, click ‘Upload URL’ and type in the full address of the data source. </li></ul><ul><li>Once this is done click ‘Next’. </li></ul>

Complete meta data <ul><li>On this page you will need to record the title and a brief description of the dataset </li></ul><ul><li>Please add the name of the area your organisation covers as a ‘tag’ (e.g for Ashford BC add ‘Ashford’ as a tag) </li></ul><ul><li>Also add ‘tags’ which will enable people to perform keyword searches for the dataset (e.g ‘Finance’ or ‘Waste’) </li></ul><ul><li>Next reference any existing datasets which relate to the dataset you are uploading and then click ‘Finish’. </li></ul>

Upload completed <ul><li>A new page will appear, confirming that the feed has successfully been uploaded onto the ‘Catalog’. </li></ul><ul><li>For any problems or issues that may arise, there is an escalation process you will have been sent, which can also be found at http://openkent.blogspot.com/ </li></ul>
