2. The Republic of Moldova is a landlocked country between
Romania and Ukraine that covers 13,199 square miles
(33,845 square kilometers).
Moldova is on a fertile plain with small areas of hill country
in the center and north. Only 9 percent of its territory is
covered by forest, mostly in the middle.
In the northern part, fertile black soil prevails
and the primary crop is sugar beet.

4. Moldova is well known for its wonderful cuisine because the
diversity and quality of this cuisine have been tested and
enriched over the centuries. Snack meals are spicy and
various. Once tasted, it’s impossible to forget mamaliga
(polenta), prepared and served with fried meat, cottage
cheese, sour cream and garlic sauce.

6. EDUCATION
The official language of Moldova is Romanian.
LANGUAGE
There are 16 state and 15 private institutions of higher
education in Moldova. Education is compulsory till the 9th
form (15 years old). The grades are from 1 to 10 (10 being the
highest). Children start school at 7 and stay in school 12 years.

8. Since antiquity, people of Moldova have practiced different
kinds of folk arts such as pottery, carpet weaving,
woodworking and stonework. The trend towards beauty and
harmony with time was expressed not only in the interior
decoration of houses, but in clothes and national costumes
too. In every village and house in Moldova, the habit of
adorning clothing, tablecloths and ritual fabrics (towel) is
practiced over the centuries by women.

10. POPULATION
Moldova has 4.32 million inhabitants. In the 1989 census, 64.5
percent of the population was Moldovan, 13.8 percent
Ukrainian, 13 percent Russian, 3.5 percent Gagauz (a Christian
Orthodox Turkic people), 2 percent Bulgarian, 1.5 percent
Jewish, and 1.7 percent other nationalities, mainly
Belarussians, Poles, Greeks, Germans, and Rom.
11. Cultural and historical heritage of Moldova was created
for several millenniums so there is always something
new to discover. In Moldova you’ll have the chance to
feel yourself as a true explorer, while walking through
secular woods, hiking historical sites and admiring the
wonderful landscapes.
12. CHISINAU
Chișinău is the most economically prosperous locality in
Moldova and its largest transportation hub. According to the
preliminary results of the last Moldovan census, conducted
between 12 and 25 May 2014, 492,894 inhabitants live within
the Chișinău municipality limits.
13. In Chișinău there are several museums. The three national
museums are The National Museum of Ethnography &
Natural History, the National Museum of Arts and the
National Museum of Archaeology & History.

19. LYCEUM “ION CREANGA”
This is our lyceum. We are lucky to study here because we
have the wonderful opportunity to meet very intelligent
people and we can take an example from them. Our school’s
history starts in 1944. Our lyceum has almost 1350 students.
The evolution of our school was great and we hope that we
will continue this development.
20. Moldova is the perfect escape, where one
may witness a fairy tale everywhere due to
the beauty of this land. Moldova can be
considered the heaven on the earth, with its
intact nature, cultural heritage, pure
traditions and hospitable people.
