2. INTRODUCTION
• The person I interviewed was my neighbor Alda
Costa .
• She runs a small business named Bella
Treasures. Bella Treasurers is a consignment
sale business that she runs.
• The business focuses on the sale of products
used by toddlers and young children, anything
from clothes to toys.
• She has been in business
since 2008.
3. BACKGROUND
• Ms. Costa is a single mother of four kids. One
day she realized that she had too much children
apparel in her house. “I needed to get rid of it!”
she explained.
• She decided to have a sale to do the job. But
she got all of her friends in on it who were also
mothers and Bella Treasures was created.
• With no former training she just went for it and
hoped for the best.
• There is a sale about every 3-6 months.
4. SUCCESSES/ CHALLENGES
• Ms. Costa told me that the biggest challenge thus far has
been, “Marketing, the hardest part is just getting the word
out there so people actually show up to buy the
products.”
• Another major challenge for the business is making it
profitable. The items sold are used and donated by other
mom’s so they are sold at a very cheap price.
• The cost of expenses has often been greater than the
profit.
• “I don’t do this for the money, as a mother I feel
successful knowing that I am helping out other families
by offering quality products for cheap prices. I am a
customer of my own business!” she explained.
• Since the main focus for this business is not profit there
is no real flaws. Profits are good enough to keep it going
and that is all that is wanted by this entrepreneur.
5. THE FUTURE
• Alda does plan on doing more
Sales in the future. There is no set
time for when the business will stop.
• The last sale was a huge
success featuring over 30,000 items,
With more than half of them being
Sold.
• A unique question I asked at the end of the
interview was if there is no guaranteed profit
then why do all this? She responded, “As a
single mom, its tough, we need all the help we
can get. This is well worth my time”
6. SUMMARY
• The advice she suggested was if you want to
start your own business try and do something
that benefits the community, not just yourself.
• Also make sure you have a good idea of what
your doing, it will only make things easier.
• And finally the hardest part is getting started.
After that the rest is a breeze.
