### Unit 7： heat

1. 1. Unit 7 Heat Nama : LEE CHOUI YEE ELA12（UPSI）
2. 2. Heat is a form of energy that cannot be seen but can be felt in matter. Heat is the amount of energy in a matter that make feel hot or cold.
3. 3. A thermometer is used to measure how hot or how cold a substances. Temperature is a measurement of how hot or how cold a things is. The metric unit for temperature is degree Celsius (◦ C).
4. 4. The types of thermometer Mercury thermometer Alcohol thermometer
5. 5. The types of thermometer • The normal temperature of human body is 37 ◦ C. Clinical thermometer Digital clinical thermometer
6. 6. Measure temperature with correct technique (Graphic) 1. Hold the thermometer upright at the upper stem not at the bulb. 2. Immerse the bulb in the water without touching the beaker. Take the reading of the temperature when the liquid level stop rising or falling. 3. Place your eyes at the same level as the liquid inside the thermometer. Read the marking on the thermometer at the meniscus of the liquid.
7. 7. Rise or Fall (Experiment) • Aim of experiment： • To measure the temperature of water when it is heated and cooled. Apparatus: lighter, lab gas, water, wire gauze, glass rod, retort stand and clamp, 250 ml water, stop watch, tripod stand, thermometer, glass rod.
8. 8. What do I do? • Method of experiment: 1. Set up the apparatus as shown in the picture. 2. Use the thermometer to measure the temperature of the water. 3. Start the stopwatch and heat the water at the same time. 4. Stir the water using a glass rod.
9. 9. What do I do? 5. Measure the temperature every 2 minutes. 6. Record your observations in the table as shown. 7. Turn off the labgas and start your stop watch at the same time. 8. Measure the temperature every 2 minutes for 10 minutes. 9. Record your observation in the table.
10. 10. Table Time (min) 0 2 4 6 8 10 Temperature of water when heated(◦ c) Temperature of water when cooled (◦ c )

12. 12. Questions 1. How does the temperature change when water is heated? • Increase, the waters gains heat when heated 2. How does the temperature change when water is cooled? Why? • Decreases, the water loses heat when cooled
13. 13. Conclusion 1. When water is heated, it ___________ heat and its temperature ________________ . 2. When water is cooled, it _____________ heat and its temperature ______________. gains loses decreases increases
14. 14. Let to sing and memory: Heat is a type energy, Thermometer use to measure temperature, When water is heated, it gains heat, temperature increases. When water is cooled, it loses heat, temperature decreases. I love to learn concept science, Heat makes temperature rise and fall.
15. 15. Exercise Time (minutes) 0 5 10 15 Tempe- rature (◦ C) 25 27 31 37 a. How does the temperature of the cooking oil change when it is heated? _____________ b. In this investigation, the things you: i. Change is:____________ ii. Keep the same are ______ and _________ iii. Observe is _________ 1. 500 ml of cooking oil is heated in a beaker for 30 minutes. The temperature is recorded every 5 minutes as shown in the above table.
16. 16. Thank you
