2. Heat is a form of energy that cannot be seen
but can be felt in matter.
Heat is the amount of energy in a matter
that make feel hot or cold.
3.
4. A thermometer is used to measure how
hot or how cold a substances.
Temperature is a measurement of how
hot or how cold a things is.
The metric unit for temperature is
degree Celsius (◦ C).

7. Measure temperature with correct
technique (Graphic)
1. Hold the thermometer upright
at the upper stem not at the bulb.
2. Immerse the bulb in the water
without touching the beaker. Take the
reading of the temperature when the
liquid level stop rising or falling.
3. Place your eyes at the same level as the
liquid inside the thermometer. Read the
marking on the thermometer at the
meniscus of the liquid.
8. Rise or Fall (Experiment)
• Aim of experiment:
• To measure the temperature of water when it
is heated and cooled.
Apparatus: lighter, lab gas, water, wire gauze,
glass rod, retort stand and clamp,
250 ml water, stop watch, tripod
stand, thermometer, glass rod.
9. What do I do?
• Method of experiment:
1. Set up the apparatus as shown in the picture.
2. Use the thermometer to measure the
temperature of the water.
3. Start the stopwatch and heat the water at
the same time.
4. Stir the water using a glass rod.
10. What do I do?
5. Measure the temperature every 2 minutes.
6. Record your observations in the table as
shown.
7. Turn off the labgas and start your stop watch
at the same time.
8. Measure the temperature every 2 minutes for
10 minutes.
9. Record your observation in the table.

13. Questions
1. How does the temperature change when
water is heated?
• Increase, the waters gains heat when heated
2. How does the temperature change when
water is cooled? Why?
• Decreases, the water loses heat when cooled
14. Conclusion
1. When water is heated, it ___________ heat
and its temperature ________________ .
2. When water is cooled, it _____________ heat
and its temperature ______________.
gains loses decreases increases
15. Let to sing and memory:
Heat is a type energy,
Thermometer use to measure temperature,
When water is heated, it gains heat,
temperature increases.
When water is cooled, it loses heat,
temperature decreases.
I love to learn concept science,
Heat makes temperature rise and fall.
