• The X-games is an extreme sport competition that is
presented twice a year by ESPN. Athletes from all over
the world compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals,

3. History of the X-Games
• The X-games first launched in 1995 in Rhode
Island.
• It was originally called the “extreme games”
and included skateboarding, bungee jumping
roller blading, mountain biking and sky surfing.
• ESPN spent reportedly $10 million on the 1995
X-Games and drew 200,ooo spectators.
• The franchise became so successful that in
1997 ESPN launched the Winter X Games
featuring skiers and snowboarders.
• The winter event got more extreme with
sports like snowmobile freestyle and ice
climbing.
4. Winter and Summer Games
• The first Winter X-Games was held in Big Bear Lake
California, in 1997.
• The winter X Games is held on a snowy mountain
environment and features winter sports like
snowboarding, skiing, and snowmobiling.
• The Winter X Games are held in late January in Aspen,
Colorado.
• Colorado has hosted the X-Games since 2002, but there
contract expired this past January.
• The Summer X-Games is held in a warm environment
and includes competition in skateboarding, BMX Biking,
motorcycling, rally car racing and surfing.
• The Summer X-Games are held in July in Los Angeles
• After this year, the Summer X-Games will be moved to
Austin, Texas.
