1. Resources in medical emergency projects:
the Médecins du Monde response.
Mr Jean Saslawsky
Taipei, June 2007
Resources are the key factor for a quick and efficient response to medical
humanitarian crisis. Médecins du Monde (MDM) has built its reputation based on its
capacity to mobilize resources.
From the very first French Doctors to the now large international organization the
actors of Médecins du Monde have reached the capacity to respond to any
humanitarian crisis, anywhere in the world in a matter of hours.
To achieve this without challenging its financial or organizational stability a
humanitarian NGO has to be prepared to mobilize its teams, its financial resources
and its equipment at any time day or night, on working days or on week-ends. MDM
has launched an Emergency Desk based on the model of an Emergency Room in a
hospital. With well trained teams ready to leave at any time, MDM is among the very
first organization to reach a disaster scene. The key of this success is also based on
a second factor: the international network of MDM projects in more than 50 countries.
