3. The NRP - Teaching Hospital Staff to
Resuscitate Newborns
Since 1987, the Neonatal Resuscitation Program
(NRP) teaches hospital staff how to resuscitate
newborns. Jointly sponsored by the American Heart
Association and the American Academy of
Pediatrics, NRP takes an evidence-based approach
when teaching nurses, respiratory therapists, and
physicians. NRP provides training to physicians both
in the US and around the world.
4. The NRP - Teaching Hospital Staff to
Resuscitate Newborns
Within its training program, the NRP incorporates
simulations that combine training in effective
communication, teamwork, constructive debriefing,
and clinical skills practice. Through simulation
videos, the NRP highlights behavioral skills that are
important when working with newborns. In order to
ensure that the information it provides is up-todate, the Neonatal Resuscitation Program Steering
Committee participates in a variety of sciencebased organizations, in addition to supporting the
NRP Research Grant program.
5. The NRP - Teaching Hospital Staff to
Resuscitate Newborns
The Neonatal Resuscitation Program’s global
projects have trained hospital staff in a wide range
of countries. Encouraging the development of NRP
structures around the world, the program provides
individualized education to fit each country.
