- Let’s start by considering some of the communication challenges your business faces. Choose one or two of these “pain points” to talk about, based on research on the company. For example: How do you get your products to market quicker – with lower cost. Have you recently gone through a merger and need to unify the organization? More than 65% of mergers fail – why? Due to lack of communication. It is too hard to merge cultures and share information, make people feel involved. Are you expanding rapidly and need to contain costs while keeping everyone on the same page? Are you outsourcing? This can contain many hidden costs – travel, misunderstandings, quality. More and more we are relying on external parties – partners, suppliers, etc. to be in synch with you and to keep to tight specifications and schedules.
- To address these challenges (i.e. decrease time to market), your business is using e-mail, phone, instant messaging – but words alone are not as effective as visual communication. 65% of meaning is conveyed using visual cues – you are missing all of that if you are not having face to face contact. Take IM or e-mail. How easy is it to misconstrue meaning or tone of voice over email? Even on the phone – in a conference call – you are never really sure who is talking, if people are really paying attention…with video you can see if people are understanding or not. You can see them shake their heads… You can also see other details in real time that aren’t easily shared over im, email, phone or even web.
