3. Nora
Petey
Petey is a very cute
and loving pup. He
just had his first
birthday and is
growing very fast. He
loves cuddling with
anyone and adores
his “mommy dog,”
Nora.
4. Other than cuddling,
there is one other
thing that Petey never
seems too tired to do.
Can you guess what
that might be?
Play with his absolute
favorite toy, his duck!
5. Before going on to
the next page, draw
a picture of a duck
on a piece of paper
and cut it out so you
can act-out the story
with Petey. Or draw a
picture of your dog’s
favorite toy. Petey
loves to share with
other puppy friends!
6. Petey is learning lots
of different
commands. He is
learning to wait to
fetch his duck after
he hears us count to
three. I hold his duck
up in the air above
him while I count.
Hold the duck you made above
your head.
7. After we count to
three, we will throw
the duck and it will
land far out in the
yard in front of him.
Hold your duck in front of you.
(We don’t want to throw inside the
classroom.)
8. Petey races to his
duck, grabs it in his
mouth, and brings it
back to us. He drops it
right beside me.
Place your duck beside you on
the floor.
9. Petey loves his duck
so much that he likes
to take it everywhere!
When he is drinking
water, he will place
his duck next to the
bowl so he can keep
an eye on it.
Place your duck next to you. See
how this is just like placing it
beside you?
10. Sometimes, we will hear
Petey bark and he will
be standing in front of
the couch or a chair.
He is trying to tell us that
his duck is stuck behind
the chair. One of us will
get it for him and he will
usually then start
jumping up and down
because he is so
excited!
Place your duck behind you.
11. Sometimes Petey’s
duck doesn’t only get
lost behind a chair; it
will sometimes also
get stuck below and
under the coffee
table because he has
accidentally pushed it
there while he is
playing.
Place your duck below and under
your table.
12. Even when the pups
are tired and ready to
take a little rest, I will
often find the duck
resting too – right
between Petey and
Nora.
Place your duck between you and
your table partner.
13. Turn to your table partner and ask each other to
explain these terms to you. Move your duck cutout to help explain:
