This document outlines the history and development of visual art education at the Sir J.J. School of Art in India. It discusses the founders and pioneering principals who established the Commercial Art section, including Prof. Charles Gerrard, Prof. V.N. Adarkar, and Prof. Capt. Salomon. It also mentions Mr. Govind Bhadsawale as the first Indian student motivated to join the Commercial Art section. The outcome of the Commercial Art section at the school was the establishment of the Commercial Artists Guild in 1952, which marked the beginning of professional commercial art practice in India and is still active today at 65 years old.
