2. MARGORIE FERGUSON
Ferguson studied mostly female facial expressions on magazine covers. He concluded
after his study that there were 4 main types of facial expressions. These are:
โข Chocolate box
โข Invitational
โข Super-Smiler
โข Romantic/Sexual
3. CHOCOLATE BOX
The chocolate box facial expression typically
shows a female with her lips slightly parted
and together, with a full or half smile. Her face
is either fully visible or three-quarters visible.
This expression is used to give the viewers a
pleasing and warm feeling, a facial expression
that lacks uniqueness.
4. INVITATIONAL
The invitational facial expression
creates emphasis on the eyes. It shows
a hint of a smile or a completely shut
mouth. The head is to one side or
looking over the shoulder back at the
camera. This facial expression can
imply mischief or mystery and gives
off an idea of potential rather than
sexual promise.
5. TREVOR MILLUM
Millum predominantly studied male facial expressions in magazines. From his study he
decided on these 5 main types of facial expressions:
โข Carefree
โข Practical
โข Seductive
โข Comic
โข Catalogue
6. CAREFREE
The carefree facial expression shows an
active, healthy male looking vibrant
and happy. When this facial expression
is used, the model is often smiling or
grinning.
7. PRACTICAL
The practical facial expression commonly
shows a concentrated man whoโs mouth is
closed, he looks like he is focused on
something and sometimes he might be
frowning.
8. SEDUCTIVE
The seductive facial expression typically
shows a male with his eyes not very wide
and sometimes shaded. He appears
confident and sometimes a slight smile
can be seen.
9. COMIC
The comic facial expression is visibly a
ridiculous and exaggerated pose. It
typically shows the model looking foolish
and pulling faces.
10. CATALOGUE
The catalogue facial expression is a neutral
look as if the model was artificial and wax
like. The model can be in any pose but is
predominantly shown with wide eyes and
smiling โ as if their personality has been
removed.
